I may have narrowed the search for my grandfather, Alexander Reid. There is a listing at Ellis Island for a mason, the right age, arriving there in 1899. If this is the right Alexander Reid, then somehow he managed to meet and marry Alice Neal, move to Winnipeg before 1905 when my father was born, and do his stonemason thing there.
