Hello Tony, "Metis" is a TERM used for someone of Indian and white ancestry. It sounds like May-tee or May-tis. It is NOT a surname. I did not find any info regarding your FERGUSON relations in "Manitoba Scrip", though I did find two FERGUSONS mentioned.
