It is in the rural municipality of Shoal Lake. The marriage record of John Wilton and Catherine Pearce who were married on December 18, 1889 in Shoal Lake is found at the new vital statistics web site at http://web2.gov.mb.ca/cca/vital/ The birth records for Selena Elizabeth born June 20, 1894, William Henry born June 30, 1892, John Thomas born March 16, 1898 and Charles Earl born November 15, 1899 all at Shoal Lake are there too. You can find this family of John Wilton along with these children in the 1901 Manitoba census at http://www.archives.ca/ The District is Marquette #9 sub district is Shoal Lake r-1 schedule 1 page 7 The township and range numbers are a great help in locating a family in the census. You will find the census an interesting read and you should be able to find this family in the 1906 census yourself. Good luck in your search, Karen in Winnipeg

You could try http://canada411.sympatico.ca/ to see if there is any family living in Winnipeg. Also the Winnipeg Directory. The only information that I have is what I posted but if I run across something that I think is related to what you want I will post it here. Rosemary
Hi, Sorry, I should have clarified my concerns. I have read the FAQ page on free access and that it will remain free. My main concern is this quotation from the FAQ page: "Since the data is provided for free on the site people will only pay for the automated searches if they think the search process itself is worth the cost so it is the search process not the data that is being charged for." Does this mean if you don't want to search for yourself, you can pay for their search engine to find the data transcribed by volunteers? While you may be paying for the use of their search process, the end result that most want is the data, and that is provided by volunteers. Perhaps I am misunderstanding and if so could someone please explain this. Judy Saskatchewan
Hi, I have been helping to transcribe for the 1901 census on the above site. I have had so much help from others that hopefully I will pass along the favour by doing this. I am wondering what the owners of this site plan on doing with the database though. At the moment it is free for anyone to search. If you go to the home page, they are have search programs in development for ged.com files etc. available for registered users. To become a registered user you must pay a fee. My understanding is that searches in certain databases available is also charged for. Anyone have any ideas on the end use of all this volunteer transcribing? If this database is to be included in their fee for search, I for one will not be donating anymore of my time. Judy Saskatchewan
