Can SKS look up the origins of the street name for FELIX AVENUE. It is a one block long street between Spruce and Valour. I am wondering if it is possible that it was named after my great grandfather Felix Henry who lived in the greater downtown area of Winnipeg for most of his life. He was a merchant, owned horses, sent his daughters to a private school (one of which won the Best Lady Rider trophy in 1893 at the Winnipeg Industrial Exhibition). It, therefore, seems possible to me that he may have been involved with the development of the land in this area. Thanks for any information that becomes available. Heather
Hello Joan in Ottawa, I checked through my Henderson's City of Winnipeg Directory for 1947 and found a Fred W Mills, laborer for the Parks Board living at 232 Watt Street in Elmwood. Margaret Mills who lives at that same address is listed as a maid at Deer Lodge Hospital. In 1948 the information on Fred is the same. In 1954 I find Fred Mills laborer for Parks Board now living at 77 Noble Avenue in Elmwood. The person listed as the owner of the house at 77 is George Gemby. I don't have any other directories to help you and am not sure if this is the right person or not. There snake pits located at Narcisse not far from there. This is a place where a number of Garter Snakes go to mate in early spring. The land around Fraserwood is bush and the soil is not good for farming.
