Jacki Humphrey Hi, I also live in Winnipeg, can I help with the look ups, tell me how and where and maybe I can help Sheila Eichstadter 159 McDowell Drive in Charleswood 831 6309
Would it be possible to look up a Obituary in the Winnipeg Free Press for me. I may be asking to much. I only have the year of death . Its James BATEMAN died in 1924 in Winnipeg. Thats all I've been able to find so far. Pam thomson from Coquitlam just got me some death and marriage certificates from the Cloverdale library and I have found a living breathing 2nd cousin who can help me with her side of the family. Its great to get a lead isn't it. Coralynn in Quesnel
Hi I am interested in getting a death certificate and or an obituary for Edith Stevens Joy who died 5 Feb 1933 in Winnipeg. Can anyone tell me how to do this? Thanks for any help that you can offer - Joy
How far back do the obituaries in the Free Press go? I am looking for one on my great grandfather Joseph LeBlanc, he drowned about 1884 while doing surveying work for the Canadian and Pacific Railroad... Cheryl
Hi again: Unfortunately I did not get a chance to check all the names that I received requests for in six hours at the library. I will try to get back up to the University next Sunday to check the rest. Originally I had planned on entering all the deaths found on the page on the Winnipeg BDM exchange. However, I have had the most wonderful two weeks and have made what appears to be breakthroughs on five different dead ends and made a promising contact on another. One of the people I think we found a marriage for (waiting for Scottish certificate to confirm) my mother has been looking for for about 8 years the last four with my assistance. Another in my Kirkaldie line (that English cousins said disappeared from the face of the earth) found on an index for the 1870 San Francisco Census. If this shows the son born in Germany I think it will I will finally be able to tie into the American Kirkaldies (currently more listed there then any where else in the world). Anyway the results of my resent winfalls mean I will be tied up with my own research for a while. So I would like to request that everyone who I found a record for enters all the deaths shown on the page on the BDM exchange. If for any reason you are unable to do so please let me know and I will do it. The following is the URL (if incorrect Phyllis please post correction) http://www.rootseb.com/~mbwinnip/ If you requested any the the following lookups please send my your postal address and the name(s) you requested (off list) and I will mail you the photo copy upon receipt. No reimbursement for copies or postage is required. Obits found for: Flack, Roy - 4 Sept 1992 Green, Pearl (?) 17 March 1963 (not right first name but right date on record for M.) Hilton, James - 5 Oct 1925 Hilton, Ellen - 5 Apr 1921 Muir, Minnie Thompson 24 Oct 1943 Slobodian, Ellias (Alex) 18 June 1947 Slobodian, Edwokia 5 June 1939 NOT FOUND: Please note I only have access to one paper the Free Press. Records start in June 1888. Prior to W.W.II very few deaths are recorded. Paper states the obit cost 50 cents. Remember this was a lot in those days and especially during depression could be the difference in whether or not they ate that day. Both Hilton entries one of three that day and obits implied above average income. Some obits mixed in with social news and may have been missed. NOT FOUND Johnstone, Joseph William 8 Jun 1887 Wood, Jane Seale 14 July 1888 Johnstone, Mary Ann 8 July 1894 Marriage Anne Muir to Jim Anderson 9 July 1908 White, John 19 Feb 1925 Marriage John Speers to Sarah Inches 7 June 1927 Adams, William John 10 Oct 1961** Morley, Mary Jane 15 Feb 1962** ** Time permitting will recheck those as found some obits at end instead of beginning of classified during this period. Not Yet Checked Lawrie, Jesse Muir 3 Sept 1968 Lawrie, Robert William 4 July 1969 Muir, Lawrence 9 Feb 1973 Adams, Minnie Jane 1 Nov 1982 Muir, Margaret, Margaret Elizabeth Adams 15 Apr 1995 Johnstone, Dale 31 May 1984 (Please confirm year either this are previous ones are not correct) Anderson, Jim 12 Feb 1959 I have made a note of all requests without exact dates and will keep my eyes opened for them. If you sent a request with a date not on any of the three above lists please let me know it was an omitted look-up and I will add it to Sunday's list of look-ups. I will also except new requests but will not start on them until after the current ones are taken care of. After this Sunday will likely not be back to library until last week of October. Should have time for a few more on Sunday as later years are faster as they are better organized in the paper. Jacki Humphrey PS Please excuss any typo's/ wrong words as usual I am doing this at 2:00 AM.
Dear Listers, Here are my interests in Winnipeg. I am looking for newspaper articles on the death of my brother. He died on the street after being hit in the face by another person. He died September 4, 1992. I am also interested in his obituary. Another interest I have in Winnipeg is newspaper articles regarding my great Grandmother. She apparently got dragged by a streetcar from one stop to the other. She wore long skirts and it got caught in the retractable step. This would have been in the 1950's. She died February 15th 1962 in Illinois but I am sure that there would have been some kind of notice in the Winnpeg paper at that time as she had lived there for a number of years. The reason that I am unable to look those things up for myself is that we do not have an FHC here on the little island that I live on. It is off the west coast of British Columbia, it takes a ferry ride to Victoria to get to an FHC and the cost and the time is quite prohibitive. Any help in either of these two matters would be appreciated. If you maybe just keep these things in mind when you are looking for your own stuff you never know you might just hit the right days. Thanks for your consideration. Bye for now Leona Jensen We've all heard that a million monkeys banging on a million typewriters will eventually reproduce the entire works of Shakespeare ... Now, thanks to the Internet, we know this isn't true. Auth. Unknown

I am still looking for the FORDYCE family. My grandmothers name was Rosa Mary or Mary Rosa. I keep getting different info. As far as I know she came from Manitoba. This dear lady married Harold BATEMAN in 1899. She died in 1914 leaving a family of 6 children. Would anyone be able to give me some clues as to where some Fordyce's might live./ Coralynn in Quenel B.C.
Hello: Could someone tell me if the Brookside Cemetery MI's have been recorded yet? I understand it was the only cemetery in the area not completed as of April 1998. I strongly suspect my elusive JOHN L. MCINNIS is buried there. He died between May and August 1891, shortly after arriving in Winnipeg from Ontario. His age was about 60 years. Vital Stats cannot locate certificate. His wife Christine and several children are in Kildonan Cemetery. Where is John? Any and all suggestions are gratefully received and most appreciated. Thanks very much. Judi Duncan Campbell River BC
A shot in the dark, not much information. My Grandfather Charles E DEARDEN born 1880 in Oldham Lanc County Uk imigrated to Canada maybe in 1890's his brother John DEARDEN also and Possiby a Sister Annie DEARDEN. It is thought Annie imiragrated to Winnipeg along with John also that Charles lived and worked in Winnipeg for the CP Railroad and worked his way to British Coulmbia. Anyway John and Charles went back to the UK and France with the Canadain armed forces. I have their military records. Charles was in Calvary and was diabled in France. John was killed in action. What is curious John Noted on his military records as next of kin Charles HULME Winnipeg. But John, Charles and Annie mother Maiden name was HULME. Have been able to come up with next to nothing on the HULME family, Martha HULME married my Grt Grandfather Samuel DEARDEN in the 1880's in the UK. Would be interested in above names which may appear in Winnipeg at turn of century or 1890's or person's also researching these names. Searching DEARDEN, HUMLE, HAMPTON in England FINLAYSON, MAIN and RALPH in Scotland Thank You David DEARDEN Edmonds Washington USA deardavey@aol.com

Marguerite, You have an obituary for George Early? On the Winnipeg District page http://www.rootsweb.com/~mbwinnip/ we have an Obituary board, too. You can post George Early's obituary, his surname will be indexed and anyone searching on that surname will be able to find him and you. I am trying to work my way forward to find any descendents of my extended Clegg kin. Margaret Clegg, born in Liverpool, England in 1874 and her brother Charles Clegg also born in Liverpool 1878. Both came to kildonan,Winnipeg about 1912. The family lost contact with them about 1920.It is believed that Margaret had a daughter named Lillian. I would very much like to find any relatives of these two people. All clues received with thanks. David Dobson, Ontario.
Hi Kay--- My Thompsons did come from the Tipperary area-- I think. At least my grandmother was said to come from there. This is my story: Great Great Grandfather Francis Thompson married Mary Perry. Mary was born in Scotland. I believe they came to Canada about 1846, soon after my grandmother was born to her mother Ann Thompson (Mrs. Robert Sparrow. ) Robert died in Ireland (no proof here at all) Francis b: abt 1781 d: 1871 age 90 Mary Perry b:abt 1788 d: 1873 I haven't pursued the three boys Frank, Henry, and James in Sullivan Twp. Gray Co. ON The girls were Mary b: 1820 d: Toronto 18 ? Ann b: 1824 d: 9 Jan 1904 born in Ireland ( my gr grandmother ) Susan b: 1825 d: 1901 This is rather sketchy but I have not concentrated on them. They may be next on my list. Any help would be appreciated. > Re: > Donna Coulter > Nanton AB. > > >Researching- BOYD-1855-1916 > >THOMPSON- Francis and Mary 1846-1900 > >CUMMINGS- John and Isabelle(Addison)1870-1900+ ON > >TEDFORD Francis (Frank) E 1870-1900+MB > > I have many ties to the same family of Irish Thompsons > [Tipperary] beginning with Joseph 1786 and Ann then > another Joseph and Ann >Montreal and Argenteuil County > QC>Winnipeg>Cavalier County North Dakota>Everett Washington I understand Francis was in Toronto before going to Grey Co. >... and the name Tedford appears as the husband of a > cousin in Washington. My Frank E. Tedford was rumored to have died in Wpg at the turn of the century but I cannot find any record. Another rumor about him was that he " ran out on my aunt " These two were married 1896 -were in Wpg -- but usie( not Susan Thompson) was back in ON for the 1901 census. Don't know what happened to him. Maybe he went to Washington --What was the time frame? He never did turn up that we know of. The plot thickens. Thanks for getting in touch. Hello! My husband's family were all based in Winnipeg and surrounding area: A large group of the HILTON family came to Headingly about 1889 from Russia (where they managed the estates of noblemen until the political atmosphere became too volatile) via Bedford (?), England. There were at least two brothers, though possibly more, and their families. They were: Henry HILTON and his wife Mary Ann GODFREY. They had 8 children: 1. Emma HILTON, b.1872 married ? GIBSON in Winnipeg and was member of the Traveller's Aid Committee in Winnipeg. Because she spoke Russian, as well as other Eastern European languages, she was helpful in welcoming the new immigrants arriving by train into Winnipeg. 2. George, b.1876 3. Henry b.1878 4. Lizzie b.1879 5. William b. 1881 6. Rose b.1882 7. Winnie b. 1884 8. Margaret b.1889 James HILTON, d.1921 Winnipeg and his wife Ellen BOMMER, d. 1925 Winnipeg. They had 10 children, most marrying in Winnipeg: 1. Ann Elizabeth HILTON, b.1867 married John Parker BUCKLE 2. Emma HILTON, b. 1869 married Harry STRANGE 3. John Henry HILTON, b.1870 married Helen ISBESTER 4. George HILTON, b.1872 married Bertha Maude HARVEY 5. Alice Maud HILTON, b. 1873 married Herbert WADGE 6. Harriet HILTON, b.1876 married Harry HALL 7. James Lewis HILTON, b. 1878 married Gertrude Blanche WARD (SHARPE) 8. William HILTON, b. 1880 married Jeanetta McGREGOR 9. Ellen Edith HILTON, b. 1881 married George E. BRACKEN 10. Elsie Mable HILTON, b. 1884 married Roscoe C.
