    1. [CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L] Gunn Roots
    2. Clayton, Brent
    3. Looking for information on members of Gunn family who were settlers in Red River Settlement. John 'Cheney' Gunn (pensioner of HM's 78th Regiment) came to Red River about 1823, married to Ann Sutherland and raised 14 children. Names of children are Margaret, Isabella, William, Henrietta, Catherine, Helen, Alexander, Johanna, Ann, Donald, Jerimiah, Mary Ann, and Robert. I am a descendant of Donald but need information regarding John before coming to Red River - and also his father, Alexander (m. Christine Gordon) from Scotland. I have records of most of the descendants of John - if anyone requires this info. Thanks to all Gunners Brent Clayton - Winnipeg

    1. Re: [CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L] Red River sites
    2. Maralyn A. Wellauer
    3. Thanks to all who have recommended sites. My main interest is in the Swiss who settled in the Selkirk Colony at the Red River Settlement in 1821 and the soldiers (de Meuron and de Watteville regiments) who came in 1817 to protect the settlers. They all left the Colony after the flood in June 1826 for the American Midwest, Upper Canada, and Montreal. I am interested in reading about the people they interacted with while they were there. Since many families wintered in Pembina, they traded with the Metis and hunters for provisions. I would like to know as much as I can about life and conditions there between 1821-1826. Any stories passed along by families about the Swiss while they were in the Colony would be appreciated. A list of the names of the Swiss and de Meurons is included under "Selkirk Project" on my website at: http://www.feefhs.org/ch/tsc/frg-tsc.html Sincerely, Maralyn A. 1. [CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L] Salvation Army Hospital
    2. Hugh C. Masson
    3. Hi List Members; I thought the answer to this was so obvious I neglected to answer. The Grace Hospital formerly located someplace west of Wolsley than sometime after the war ca 1960's a new one was built on the west side of WPG. Don't know the dates of when the move was made but I remember in 1947 taking a nurse home there to the old one one Saturday night. Hugh

    1. [CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L] Insane Asylums?
    2. Since hospitals are being discussed, I thought this would be a good time to ask if anyone knows which hospitals were in existence around 1900? My gggrandmother was committed about that time in Winnipeg where she lived out the rest of her life. No one seems to know the name of the place as this was not discussed very openly in the family. She died sometime after 1920..... Did the Salvation Army hospital care for mentally ill patients long-term? Can anyone give me the names of the hospitals in Winnipeg around 1900? Could really use the help on this! Best Regards, Roberta in Vancouver, WA, US
