    3. Sorry this is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone could suggest where I might beg, borrow or steal a copy of the history of the 23rd Regiment of the Canadian Army during WW2? I have my father's military records which I obtained from Ottawa, and it tells me that he was awarded the DSO (Distinguished Service Order). I have asked at several departments in Ottawa, and no one can tell me why he was awarded this medal. I have read and copied from the history of the 19th regiment any references to Lt-Col R. D. TELFORD and had no success there. He was previously attached to the 23rd regiment, so I thought this would be the next place to try searching. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated. 2. Phyllis Haynen
    3. Carolynn, Where did you write for this death certificate? I know I would send another letter with the information you requested and the incorrect information you received. I had something similar happen in Washington State. I think my mistake was requesting two different certificates on one letter. I did write again and gave my phone #. I received a phone call and the correct death certificate. I don't know what it's like in Canada. Maybe someone on the list can help with this. 2. Audrey & Ray Staines
    3. Hello Carol and Listers After my several messages griping about the Manitoba Archives, I think it only fair to say that they came up trumps for me. Jackie Nichols, the Archivist sent me everything I asked for concerning three Land Grants for JAMES HENRY FRY and his neighbour EDWARD SNELSON. And one she found while looking for the others about which I knew nothing. I just did not understand the system, and it took a little longer than I expected but not much. They send the bill with the completed work and I was expecting to pay up front! Now, does anyone know anything about the family of Edward Snelson and Elizabeth Ann Fry. They appear in the 1901 Census for Sifton, Brandon, Manitoba Twp 9, Range 25, W1 along with children, Mary E b. 1890, Herbert H b. 1891, Louisa A b. 1896, and Arthur R b 1899. I would dearly love to find the descendants of this family. Audrey in Ingersoll, Ontario.

    1. Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Fw: Death index
    2. Ann & Pete Van Royen
    3. Joyce, I don't know of any similar index in Canada. It is very difficult to access information on 20th century Canadians. We went up to Ottawa for Thanksgiving, because, of course, it was just a workday there, and spent a couple of days in the Canadian Archives. We found very little, a good collection of city directories of Canada, some limited immigration records, 1919-1924, and lots of ship lists, not indexed. A nice trip, Ottawa is less than 4 hours drive from our home here in northern Vermont, but did not accomplish much genealogically. If you find such a thing, please let me know. 1. Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Manitoba Census Records
    2. Hugh C. Masson
    3. There is a little problem looking for those censuses in Lisgar. Each census is listed under a different name. In 1881 it was in Marquette, in 1891 in Selkirk and 1901 in Lisgar. You see Lisgar was originally near Winnipeg. and Marquette convered that area of SW Manitoba. Than Selkirk covered it than Selkirk and Lisgar traded names and area's. So it depends what year you wish to look in each area. I know as I had quite a time looking up my family at Pilot Mound. The one thing that seams consistant was the name of the Municiplatity but they changed boundries also but to a more limited amount. Hugh
