Rick On page 307 of the Rural Municipality of Franklin, the entire family history of John Alexander McVicar is laid out. There is no mention of a Sarah Ann McVicar though. John Alexander McVicar married Elizabeth Timlick, daughter of Henry and Ellen Timlick, on March 6, 1907. They had four children: Donald, Jean, John Jr. and Marjorie. The article makes reference to John Jr. as though he is the second John McVicar rather than the third (which might have suggested that John Alexander had a father named John as well and therefore making it possible for John Alexander to be a sibling of Sarah Ann). No references are made to Hackney in the book that I could find. At least we are in the same neck of the woods in Southern Manitoba! Hope this helps a bit. The two boys aged abou 5yrs and possibly twelve years were sent from "White Russia" probably leaving the port of Danzig about 1890. I believe they were un-accompanied (Orphans ?). I also believe they lived and worked on a farm in the Winnipeg area. I do not know the name of the ship what they arrived in or the port of arrival. The elder brother ran off to the US some time later (Year unknown) and to date his relatives have not been traced although I am working on this. Ludwig also left Canada to the US possibly about 1900 + and it is known he joined the merchant marine possibly shipping out of Pittsburg. Can anyone help in locating immigration or other lists to assist the search. Ludwig later joined the British Army in WW1 and we have his discharge papers in 1919 as birth place "Plotz" I cannot find that town/village - but as they were young children and probably didn't speak english when arriving in Canada it could have been "Plock" which is now Polish but was Russian. Really looking forward to help. Kindest regards, Jim Trauntner.

By 1955 streetcar, trolley bus and motor bus served the city. Many lines were removed 1955 and then end of this service was June 1967. I should think somewhere in one of the museums they would have records/photos.Wnpg has several museums so you might need to look thru gd search engine present names/addresses.good luck
What was cute about those Winnipeg Electric Street Cars back in prehistoric times, 30's, 40's, when I used to ride them regularly was that they had little pot-bellied stoves on board just behind the driver who would shovel some coal in now and again. Otherwise the passengers would freeze to death. Many years later I discovered that there were places where life didn't involve this risk which is why I am where I am. Allan P. Greetings from Nanaimo, British Columbia! My grandfather, TOM (TIM) WALTER BURWELL, born 6 April 1884 in Leeds, YKS, England. He left England for Winnipeg in 1903 where he married ALICE BASTION. They had a son, LOUIS WALDEN BURWELL. Alice may have had a daughter, MAUD, from a previous marriage. Alice died in 1910, and Tim sent to England for his love, KATE CECIL STUBBS, born 30 December 1879. Tim and Kate married 26 January 1911. A son, RALPH DAVID BURWELL, was born March 25, 1913. In April of 1915, TIM had signed up for the war (5th Cdn Mounted Rifles), so KATE returned to England with the two boys and very much pregnant - my mother, CLARICE CECIL BURWELL, was born June 1, 1915. They remained in England until April 1925, when Tim, Kate & the boys returned to Canada (Winnipeg); Clarice stayed in England until May 1929. Clarice married William Reginald Cunningham, and the family lived in Winnipeg until 1939, when Clarice & Reg moved to Vancouver, their parents following soon after. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Sometime between 1885 and her death in 1898, Flora (McLeod) MORRISON became the first teacher at West Brendal School in southern Manitoba. Flora was my great-grandmother. In 1885 she was living in Corunna, Ontario with her two young sons, Donald Greenfield Morrison and Norman Roderick Morrison, one young daughter, Margaret Isabel, and was expecting a fourth. In October 1885 the fourth child, a daughter Annie Harriet Christina (my grandmother) was born. Just prior to Annie's birth my great-grandfather, James Morrison, was "lost at sea" in the Great Lakes. It is thought that he was a sea captain. After Annie was born, Flora and the four children moved to homestead in southern Manitoba. Of the four children listed above, the only one the family lost track of was Donald Greenfield MORRISON. Perhaps someone out there has some info on him. I'm hoping that someone on this list has some knowledge of either West Brenda School, or the teacher, Flora Morrison, or both. TIA, Barb in Kelowna, B.C.

Hello Colleen, I am presuming you are wanting to obtain vital stats documents from the Manitoba Government??? If that is the case, you would only need a letter to obtain documents regarding her parents, with her signature as next of kin giving you permission to obtain these. As for waiting 20 years after her death, I am guessing that would only apply to her death certificate. I was in touch with the Vital Stats dept and they provided me with numerous form to complete for obtaining various "genealogical" certificates. If you are wanting to obtain a copy of her birth and/or marriage certificate, I would suggest you obtain these forms and just have her sign them. Unfortunately, as I am right in the midst of moving (next Saturday is D-day!) so I don't have them handy. Once moved, I may not have internet access for a week or so (horrors!!), but do keep in touch if you need any further help. Good luck! I am researching the Cullen family in Winnipeg. My grandfather was John Cullen born December 25, 1889 in Winnipeg. His parents came from Dublin, Ireland. They were Frank and Grace Cullen. My grandfather ran away from home at 13 and refused to talk about his family so I don't have much information. Is there anyone else that is researching this family?
