Diane: There is a fabulous two-volume Métis genealogy books at the Vancouver Public Library, I believe it`s called, 'The Métis -A Genealogical Compendium'. Winnipeg should have it because, from what I've seen, there are Métis lines from Manitoba in it. The lineages were extensive and went back to the early Hudson Bay Company days. Most major Canadian newspapers are available on microfilm at local city or university libraries across the country. If your local library doesn't have the one that you are interested in, they will be able to get it by interlibrary loan. For example, both the Calgary Public and University of Calgary libraries have microfilm copies of the Free Press. In Fort Saskatchewan, they are not available except by interlibrary loan. The cost associated by ILLs is either minimal or absorbed by the library. Hope that helps. >From: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D-request@rootsweb.com >Date: Wed, 19 Jan 2000 06:20:18 -0800 (PST) >Subject: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D Digest V00 #17 >To: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D@rootsweb.com >Reply-To: CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-L@rootsweb.com > >Content-Type: text/plain > >CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D Digest Volume 00 : Issue 17 > >Today's Topics: > #1 [MBWINNIPEG-L] Winnipeg Ancestors- [Sue Jensen <rsjensen@rapidnet.com>] > #2 [MBWINNIPEG-L] CEMETARIES ["coralynn" <teic@uniserve.com>] > #3 [MBWINNIPEG-L] Questions re Custom ["Judy Woodley" <judywood@netcom.ca] > #4 [MBWINNIPEG-L] Re: Old pictures co ["Joan & Wayne Wilton" <panther@elg] > #5 Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Questions re Cu [RADNA@aol.com] > #6 Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] CEMETARIES [RADNA@aol.com] > #7 [MBWINNIPEG-L] McLean information [RADNA@aol.com] > #8 Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] CEMETARIES [Carol Lylyk <clylyk@telusplanet.ne] > #9 Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Questions re Cu [Phyllis Haynen <phaynen@gte.net>] > #10 [MBWINNIPEG-L] RE: LOOKING FOR MY ["cyle hallborg" <hallborg@telus.ne] > >Administrivia: >To unsubscribe from CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D, send a message to > > CAN-MB-WINNIPEG-D-request@rootsweb.com > >that contains in the body of the message the command > > unsubscribe > >and no other text. At the Winnipeg District, MB GenWeb Site, there is a page for newspapers in the Winnipeg District. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mbwinnip/newspapers.htm If anyone has other names and addresses, please let me know. I'll add those to the page, too. Phyllis RADNA@aol.com wrote: > > I was just searching the net today and found www.winnipegfreepress.com. They have a web site. Hope it is the one you wanted. I know what you mean about things disappearing in seas of paper. Carol Lylyk Calgary,
I have very good luck having old photos copied on a Laser (ie Canon, Kodak etc.) photocopier. A few have even looked better than the original. Barring that course, try scanning the picture into a computer and manipulating contrast, sharpness, smoothing and more with any of the photo enhancing programs that are out there today. I use an Epson inkjet and can get photographic quality pics from it printed on photographic paper available in packs from any paper or office supply store. I would try the laser copier first -- all quick print shops or demand copy centers use laser copiers so it won't be hard to find a place. Good luck. JDW
