    2. Just wondering how far Elmwood Cemetary is from Mc Millan Ave. My Great Grandparents lived on Mc Millan and wondering if it is close, maybe they are buried there. Basically finding information on my family is looking like a needle in a haystack. It's like they never exsisted. The cemetary idea is just a shot in the dark. Thanks. Catherine

    3. I also visited this cemetery 2 years ago looking for ancestors. It was as rundown as earlier described. As a matter of fact, a number of the graves by the river edge are in danger of falling into the river! Apparently the company that owned it is now out of business and various governments are shuffling around the issue of who will pay the continuing upkeep of Elmwood. The only documentation the cemetery office has is a written book in chronological order of all those interred there. If you don't know the date of death it can be a real challenge to find someone. In the summer months take care to pack some insect repellent as all the standing water and large trees make an excellent breeding ground for mosquitos. I was driven back to my car after only 20 minutes. :-( Another suggestion is to bring a trowel, rag and bucket as you might have to do some cleaning/clearing to clearly see a stone (particularly the ones flush with the ground). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Regards, Murray Gauer GAUER Page: users.uniserve.com/~morbeus/ GRHS VC Birsula/Nesselrode/Rosenfeld,OD Researching: GAUER, SCHMALENBURG, HERTZ (HERZ,HERTY), LEONHART(IN) KUNZ (CUNZ, CUNTZ), MASSIERER, MEURER, DREGER From: BEDRYKOWICE, ZALESZCZYKI, BIRSULA, NESSELRODE, DIENSTWEILER

    3. To the best of my knowledge, Elmwood Cemetery is not online, I do not think it has even been transcribed. When I visited there a couple of years ago there was one lady in the office with a large book she let us look through to try and find the graves of three young children. The cemetery itself at that time was rather rundown, I believe they were trying to get some other arrangements made for it so that it would be maintained. I think it had been and may still be privately owned. I hope they were successful in getting some sort of regular maintenance done. 3. Hi, Ginger, The Canadian stuff is tougher for us here down under (:-). My husband's family came from Canada (Schade, Fitz, Witkosky), Mostly, Saskatchewan, and the Winnipeg area. But, I found Edward Witkosky Fitz (great uncle) that died in Vancouver. We never knew where he was and who his children were. There were many in that generation that stayed in Canada and was just wondering what links were available for online information. Thanks for the lead. I will certainly check it out.
