    1. [MBWINNIPEG-L] MANNING,SEWERS FAMILIES IN ROCKWOOD
    2. Wendy Hillier
    3. I am researching my ggrandparents who both lived a number of years in Manitoba near Winnipeg in the Rockwood Stonewall area. Both families came from Ontario in the later half of the 19th century. My ggrandfathers name was William James MANNING and he married Elizabeth SEWERS in Rockwood in 1884. My grandfather Wesley George MANNING and his brother and sisters were born in this area before the family moved to B.C. in approximately 1905. If these names are familiar to anyone or if anyone can give me the name of any source material information (ie. books etc.) about the area during this period of time I would be most appreciative. Thank you Wendy - --------------------------------------------------- Click here for Free Video!! http://www.gohip.com/freevideo/

    3. Hi Kenee, Just wrote you regarding the Smalls and then read your letter with reference to your relative who died in a railroading accident. I am researching the Gillson line..one John Herbert Gillson, b. 1873, in Collingwood, Ontario. John married the Frances Small, I just wrote you about a minute ago. John and Frances married in 1894 in Collingwood, Ontario. Had 4 children together and ended up in Winnipeg, Manitoba. John simply disappeared about 1907, "left" his wife and four children..never to be heard from again. We believe he worked for one of the railroads. How did you find records for railroad workers and what railroad? Do you have address? I would really appreciate any clues you can give me. Thanks a bunch. 3. Hi, Can anyone tell me if I am in the right territory for Rainy River or Emo?? I have been searching to no end for infromation from there and have not been able to get what I need! I am searching for the last child of 10 and he died up in that area and then his wife remarried changing their sons last name to her newly married name. Any help from anyone would be so very much appreciated! I have to find him it is a promise I made to his mother that I would bring all her children back home to her!! I am also looking for an article in a newpaper from up there from two others that died. It was the husband first he was burned badly by a train and died in his sister in laws arms in the hospital and his wife was then brought pregnant and very ill and she died two days later leaving her two small children to be raised by her mother as his family wanted to give them up as orphans. This is what I have on them: Samuel Tobin was an engineer for the Canadian Railway and was fatally injured from an explosion on the train near Sleeman Hill. Samuel was 29 years old at the time of his death at St. Boniface and was buried in a double funeral with his wife Hazel in Rainy River. Samuel died December 18, 1918, in Winnepeg, Province of Manitoba, Canada. His wife Hazel Rose (nee Everett) Tobin died December 20, 1918, Winnepeg, Province of Manitoba, Canada, at St. Boniface also. I am sure my other is buried there also his name was August Kralewski and he probably died somewhere between 1910 - 1915. He was most likely buried in that same cemetery as Hazel and Samuel as Hazel was his neice. His wifes name was Marie or Maria (nee Wachter) Kralewski, Hammel she married a Mike Hammel sometime after Augusts death. Thanks for any help you can give. Connie Weber :-)

If you go to http://www.rootsweb.com/~canmb/districts.htm then scroll down to 'Midwestern Parkland' and click on it, it gives you a whole list of the names of towns in that area. Down near the bottom is Swan River, click on it and you should get a screen that lists various things you can check out about the town, on being the businesses. Scroll down to Paulls Funeral Home. I noticed that they have an email address. I don't know if they have been in business since 1909 but I know they have been there a long time. They possibly could help you. Just looked in a book put out by the Swan River Valley for their centennial 1998 and it shows Paulls having been there since 1890"s and it sounds like they started the funeral home business pretty early. Unfortunately the book, while in alphabetical order does not cover everyone that originally settled in the Swan River Valley. I guess people were supposed to send in their own family history to be included. Lots of luck in your research. Carol Lylyk Calgary , Alberta

    3. There is a town of Swan Lake and a lake named Swan Lake southsouthwest of Portage la Prairie, about 25 to 30 miles north of the US border. There is another Swan Lake east of the Porcupine Provincial Forest and north of the Duck Mountain Provincial Park, about 30 miles east of the Saskatchewan border. Swan River flows into this lake from the southwest, and the town of Swan River is on this river. The two towns are not near each other. 3. Peter: >From what I was told at the cemetery in SD where my relative was supposed to be buried, ( I couldn't find a death certificate in the County courthouse files) the funeral directors keep lists of all the people they have buried over the years. I was told to find a list of funeral directors for that city and begin writing them for info. I thought that this list might help others to do the same, in Winnipeg, that I need to do here in South Dakota. Does anyone else know if what I was told is true for the funeral directors in Winnipeg? I am still pretty new at this stuff! Also, thanks to Karen and Margie for letting us know about the current funeral homes. That Funeralnet.com is a good site for those that want to look in other cities. Sue " Just for my education, what benefit is it to know the funeral directors? Do they have any information that might help with geneaology? I'm not being picky...just want to know. Regards........Peter Willcock"
