    1. [MBWINNIPEG-L] DOSWELL, c. 1905
    2. Hi to all, Around 1905, Emma Ida Bee DOSWELL, b. 1874, with 3 young daughters, Ellen, Jessie, and Lillian, and pregnant with her son, Charles, arrived in Winnipeg from London, England. Her husband had died just before embarcation and she then continued to Canada to fulfill the indenture obligation. Sometime after arrival she met and married Joe Kirk. Her son, Charles, died around age 9 after an accident. By 1919 they were in Yakima, Washington where her daughter, Ellen, married and became my husband's mother. Can SKS give me some direction in starting the search for this family during their years in Winnipeg. Or some URL I can search in Canada for immigration and census information in Winnipeg. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Marj Meagher San Jose, California MarjMeag@aol.com

    3. Hi Darcy, There are three G. McLean's in my book, it doesn't give a first name. Two were killed in action, the third is McLean, G. rank was Spr. (I assume specialist) regimental #622036, original unit 44th bn, demobilised 25-3-19, theatre of operation France (U.K. 44th bn.) I believe that means he was with the 44th in the UK and was transfered to another unit at some point. 3. Jacquie, Thanks for offering to share your book on the 44th Battalion. I don't know if my two relatives were in that Battalion, but I do have their regiment numbers. Would you be able to look up, Fred Schack, regiment #1069364, and Walter Schack, regiment# 2147627. Thanks. I got their regiment numbers from National Archives where I was able to view their attestation papers taken from them in 1917 for the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Forces, for WWI. That is a good site. Sue in South Dakota where we just received a much needed blizzard! :-) > Hello Everyone, > > I thought that I should let people know that I have > E.S. 1. [MBWINNIPEG-L] Curwain
    2. Hi - this is my first posting to this list. I've been sitting back and reading all the wonderful information about my birth place and the people who made it what it is today through their courage and strength. What a wonderful heritage we have! My family, Fred and Lucy Anne Curwain came to Winnipeg from Broadview, Saskatchewan, sometime after 1916. My mom, Muriel Kathleen, was born in Broadview, but her younger brother, Harold, was born in Winnipeg. My grandfather owned a jewelry & watch repair across from Eatons and that store was there for many years - my uncles Lewis and David took over the store when he died around 1951. I believe it closed some time in the late 50's. So after all that, are there any postings of Curwains on your list? I'm looking forward to your reply. Guess I thought I should add a bit of my family history for all to read. Diane Eldridge Allen Canoga Park, CA
