Hello Everyone I am trying to find the family of Edith Pattenden and Harry Dennis Pennicard who moved out to the Winnipeg area in the 1920s. Edith PENNICARD (PATTENDEN) was our Grandfather's twin sister and we would love to make contact with her family. Sadly contact was lost sometime ago. Her half-brother Tom BAKER also from Edenbridge in Kent was in the Winnipeg area at the same time. We understand that about 20 years ago a son of Tom BAKER returned to Edenbridge to try and find family. Is he still looking? We are not in the Edenbridge area now and are dispersed all over the Kent country. Please make contact. Any knowledge or information regarding these families is eagerly sought. With best wishes Evelyn
Hi, Do a Google Search for "Winnipeg Free Press". There are several web sites, and one should have their phone number. Pat

More..... I believe that the Winnipeg Free Press was called the Manitoba Free Press back in 1891. I also believe that copies of these early papers are available on microfilm on the 3rd floor of the Winnipeg Centennial Library. They charge .35 cnts per page for photocopying. McGregor, MB., is about 70 miles west of Winnipeg. Too far to have been a part of Winnipeg. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Carolyn Murphy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 02, 2002 2:49 PM Subject: [MBWINNIPEG-L] location question > Does anyone know if in the early 1900's, the town McGregor was a part of, or near, Winnipeg? > > Thanks, > Carolyn Murphy > > > ==== CAN-MB-WINNIPEG Mailing List ==== > Free Webspace at RootsWeb > http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/press/FPhistory.html > Create your Genealogy Website! >
McGregor has always been about 60 miles straight west of Winnipeg. You should be able to find a map of it on the internet. Does anyone know if in the early 1900's, the town McGregor was a part of, or near, Winnipeg? Thanks, Carolyn Murphy
OH MY GOODNESS! You have got to be kidding. I am so excited!!!! I am in Ontario ... about 35 miles east of Toronto. I am very interested in a connection as my Grandmother (who is 93 years old and unfortunately very senile) is the only living connection that I know of to either side of these two families. It really does pay to take a shot in the dark! Here's hoping ... many thanks, John Best regards Toni ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Tracy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 02, 2002 5:03 AM Subject: Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Henry Gray and Alice Rowan > Hi back; > What a small worlf. Hi John No, my Grandmother's maiden name was GREGSON. The Gregsons originated in Ireland and then Ontario and moved to Brandon (about 1885ish). My GGrandmother (Lily BONSER) came from Nottingham, England and met my GGrandfather John Stanley Gregson. John committed suicide in 1913 and Lily and their two children moved to Ontario sometime after 1913. I also knew very little of my ancestors and now have 14,500 in my tree. My problem is that the HARPER side of the family are a long list of "James" (all my Grandfather's were James - back to my 3x GGrandfather ... that I know of) of which there are many and I no idea where they were before 1900! I have been unsuccessful in finding any marriages, births or deaths prior to 1900. Anyway, the hunt goes on!!!! Thanks so much for your help! Hi again; Your grandmom's name wouldn't have been Laird would it? I'm looking for a family of Lairds living in Brandon in 1901. Have you checked the 1881 CDN census? The LDS site has it on-line. It can get frustrating indeed, but a year ago I knew practically nothing about the majority of my ancestry. Now I have 12,200 members of my family tree. Keep at it. Hi there; Sorry but no Margaret. My crew came from Ontario abt.1907 and settled in Winnipeg. They descend from George Gray and Tachel Pallister, from Collingwood (Geo was orig from England and died as the result of a "carriage accident" in 1906). Good luck on your search. If I come up with a Margaret during my research, I'll let U know. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/mNC.2ACE/1855.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Gerri, went through all of my documents and the Deer Lodge Hospital records were obtained from the Canadian Department of Veterans Affairs. They were attached to my grandfather's W W 1Army records. The government of Canada, department of Veteran's affairs is who you would contact to inquire about existing records. Hope this helps you out.
Hello Dick, Many thanks for your email. Yes his army record says he enlisted in the fort Gary Horse on the 24th August 1914, his home address is only given as Calgary, his wives name is only given as Mrs. E. O'hara, it does not actually say where he was demobed only that it was the 14/August 1919. He was award the M.C. I don't have the full record yet only what a kind lady at the archive sent me. My uncle visited him in 1959, and the family are pretty sure it was in Winnipeg, cupped with the fact the photo I have of him is stamped with a Winnipeg photographer, which is no longer their. Re: (If he was alive and living and/or working in Winnipeg in 1950's, it > shouldn't be too hard to locate him (might even have spouse's name and his > occupation) It would be great if you can find any lead at all I have come up with blanks every where I have tried. Re:( According to my arithmetic, his daughter was born about 1916. Was she born in Ireland or Canada. If in Canada, where?) I have checked the Irish records and can't find a marriage for James and Ella. I checked the English ones too as Ella was supposed to have come from London with no luck, so I think Colleen would have been born in either Calary or Winnipeg. James was born in 1887. The last I have of him is that he was a labour on a farm in 1901 census in Ireland. This has been a real brick wall for me, so I would be very grateful for any help you could give me. Many thanks Wendy. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Richard McElhoes" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 01, 2002 6:01 AM Subject: Re: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Hello Richard. > Wendy - > Does the Army record show his regiment, date & place of enlistment, > residence address, next-of-kin, date & place of discharge? > If the addresses are in Winnipeg, he could, perhaps, be listed in the City > Directories of the period if the dates were known. > If he was alive and living and/or working in Winnipeg in 1950's, it > shouldn't be too hard to locate him (might even have spouse's name and his > occupation) > According to my arithmetic, his daughter was born about 1916. Hi John You wouldn't happen to have a Margaret Gray married to a James Harper (about 1908) in your line of Gray's? I know very very little about Margaret (my GGrandmother) as I believe she left James when their children were quite young and left the children with James. She and James lived at 5 Buller Avenue in Toronto from 1909-1913 (that I know of for sure). Looking forward to hearing from you. Best wishes Toni, Ontario Canada ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Tracy" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, December 01, 2002 7:58 AM Subject: [MBWINNIPEG-L] Henry Gray and Alice Rowan > > Hi list; > I'm searching for any info on Henry "Harry" Gray b. Hi Jerry: All records are held by the Vital Statistics Agency. Records go back as far as 1813 according to the form one must use to order records. Unfortunately, each search costs $25.00CDN, whether or not they find your relative. Payment has to be made by certified cheque or money order, unless you can go in person. Forms can be obtained from the agency. Their address is: 254 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, MB I can't make out the postal code on the form I have and it doesn't appear to be in the listing in the local telephone directory, but I am sure you could find it on the web.
