Hi and Merry Christmas to all - I am new to this site and I am researching my grandfather, Alfred Arthur Duxbury born 1882 in Erin, Ontario (Wellington Co.) He was the son of Robert Joseph Duxbury and Emma J. Dunett. He left Manitoulin Is. around l7 yrs. of age and went to Dauphin,Manitoba. He worked at many things - c. l900 he worked in a Railroad Camp in Swan River, a sawmill in Pine river, a fishing boat on Lake Winnipegosis and he apprenticed as a blacksmith. In l904 he married Lily May Bickle in Winnipegosis. She was born June 1887 Prattford, Cavalier Co. North Dakota. They were members of the Salvation Army. They had 7 children: Joseph b. l906, Emma b. l907, Charles b. l909, Roy b. l9ll, Norman George b. l9l3 (my father), Mary and May (twins) b. l926. In l907 he opened a hardware and tinsmithing business. In l909 he opened a blacksmith shop. In l9l9 he started an undertaking business in Minnedosa. Grandma died in l939 (buried Neepawa) and grandpa remarried to Mrs. George McCracken of Eden (location?) in l942. He died l952, buried Neepawa. Would love to hear from anyone who is familiar with these names. Cheers, Norma in Ontario.
Norma: Eden is about 10-15 miles north of Neepawa. I checked my local history book of Neepawa for Duxbury but no listing. There might be an Eden local history book. There were a lot of them published in the 1970's and 1980's. I am not sure who would contact to find out about the local history book. The Neepawa library might have one.
