There is also a 1 time fee ot pay (the last time I checked it was around 300$) and do prepare to be patient as there is quite a backlog. I submitted my search in 1991 when I was 18 and they only started and completed my search when I was 25. Another thing you may want to keep in mind is that back in 1950 adoption was very much a closed issue..that is not many people talked about it, as if it was a big secret.
