    3. Hi Elaine Under the Dominion Land Grant Legal Descriptions, the file reel number is C-6428. I am just going to have to order this Grant from the Archives. How would I go about finding out what happened to this Land Grant e.g. when it changed hands after my gt. grandfather had it? Thanks for all your help PatG I can tell you right away by the W3 at the end of the description that isn't in Manitoba. W3 means west of the third meridian(which is out in BC). The meridian it is referring to is just west of Winnipeg Manitoba and most of western MB is in the 1st Meridian. BUT -I figured some part of that location had to be right. I went to the web site for searching geographical names http://geonames.nrcan.gc.ca/english/cgndb.html and did a search and found an Overflowing River in Manitoba but the land description was 18-48 - 25 W (There was no 3 in behind the W) When I did a map search for the location it showed it to be at the north western tip of Lake Winnipegosis / Lake Manitoba. On my AAA map book there is a Overflowing River town indicated. It appears to be about 50-60 kilometers south of The Pas, Manitoba. Based on your land description and the location of the town - your ancestor lived about 26 miles straight north and 1 miles west of Overflowing River. The next quesiton then is what area is Overflowing River in the 1901 census. The closest town I found to that area was the Swan River area which was in the Marquette area. There is an Unorganized Territory for Marquette as well (There was no listing for The Pas). My guess would be to start with NAC MF reel T-6434 which seems to incorporate this area. I hope this helps - the above web site is wonderful for trying to figure out where places are located.
