Hilary: I am not sure of his parents. I am trying to confirm if John James is the son of Andrew and Ann (nee Hawkshaw) Downey. There are a lot of similarities but nothing definite. Janet, If you are looking for Downey's with a Manitoba connection I can offer one more. Charles Erwin Downey s/o John Downey and Ukn. born 24 May 1875 in Stayner, Ontario. He married a Margaret Cooper Sinclair in Winnipeg in 1904. That marriage is in the Maitoba Archives but I have not requested the registration. Charles and Margaret Downey moved to the Salmon Arm area of B.C., via Vancouver possibly, shortly thereafter. Charles, according to his obituary did have a sister by the name of Hopgood who remained in Manitoba. There were others in the family who moved to B.C. I don't know if there is any connection but if you think there is I do have some further information.
