    3. But BC also charges for the actual certificates, just as Manitoba does. You can find almost as much information on the Manitoba site as you can opn the BC site. It is just the time frames that are different. ===== Lynton (Bill) Stewart Metis, Scots and English Ancestry, Loyalist and Patriot, USA and Canadian. Without them, I wouldn't be here. .

    3. That is not quite correct. While you can order "certificates" from BC for a lot of money, the actual long registration which has the full information can be copied for 50 cents. One just needs access to various genealogical libraries in BC where these are all on micorfilm. Many listers have success in requesting copies on the BC List for a very small fee (copying and postage) or for FREE. You can also search Textual items on line. 3. I have access to a plethora of Canadian genealogy right here in Vancouver.... We are about to get the holdings of the MB Archives online...This will be wonderful for our gen research...lets see what they provide...Our National Archives have tons of stuff as well. Most Major University Libraries across Canada have the Henderson's Directories hidden away in the PEEL COLLECTION on m/f. This includes the street Directories for Winnipeg and other major Canadian Prairie Cities 18?? to 1953. Re: Births, Marriages & Deaths for BC & ON "Birth, marriage and death records can provide a wealth of information for the genealogist. Varying amounts of information about parents, occupation, birthplace, place of residence etc. are available depending on the type of record. Death records are often the most comprehensive. Vital statistics records are a provincial responsibility, and to date only two provinces (B.C. and Ontario) have put their vital records into the public domain. The History & Government Division holds a complete set of available British Columbia registrations, and a set of indexes to the Ontario registrations. For the other provinces you must contact the specific provincial Vital Statistics office. Ask at the Librarians' Desk for a list. The following Vital Statistics microfilms are available in the the History & Government Division: British Columbia: All Birth, Marriage and Death Registrations that have been released by the B.C. Vital Statistics Agency are now available. The following years have been released: Births: 1872 - 1902 Marriages: 1872 - 1927 Deaths: 1872 - 1982 Updates are received on an annual basis. The Vital Events Index can be used to find the appropriate BC Archives microfilm reel number and the registration number of the record that you want. For detailed instructions about using the index and locating the records, see our guide to Finding B.C. Civil Registration Records. Ontario: The Vancouver Public Library holds birth, marriage and death indexes to vital records held by the Archives of Ontario. Indexes to Ontario vital events are available for the following years Births, stillbirths & delayed registrations: 1869 - 1906 Marriages & delayed registrations: 1873 - 1921 Deaths & delayed registrations: 1869 - 1931 Using the information provided by the above indexes, you can request the microfilm containing the actual record from the Archives of Ontario. For more information about this service, please see our Services & Facilities for Genealogists page." cheers ~viv~ Vancouver ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lynton Stewart" <medicsarge@sbcglobal.net> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, April 09, 2004 4:04 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-Manitoba] Advice need re: Vital Statistics > But BC also charges for the actual certificates, just > as Manitoba does. > > You can find almost as much information on the > Manitoba site as you can opn the BC site.
