My knowledge of Manitoba is very limited and wonder if SKS would email David with a few answers to his questions. The circumstances leading to my wanting to do this are as follows:- My late father (Harold Douglas Hanks) was born in Crystal City, Manitoba on 19 March 1917. He came to England in 1921 after his father (Horace Leslie Hanks b.18.10.1893) was gassed in France whilst with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After he was invalided back to England he was told that with his then one remaining lung he would not survive if he returned to his farming life with his wife and children in Manitoba. Consequently my grandmother had to uproot on her own and came back with my father & his older brother (Edward Leslie Hanks) to join my grandfather and to try and farm in Naunton again when his health was improved - not an easy task. They had gone to Canada in 1912 to make a fresh start because there were basically too many of them for the land to sustain in the village.
