Hello. I'm trying to research my GG Grandfather Robert MAGUIRE and his wife Sarah Anne (no known maiden name) that were married in Ontario and migrated to Portage La Prairie in 1894. They both lived out the remainder of their lives there, Robert dying in 1929 and Sarah Anne in 1936. I can't recall off-hand, as I don't have my sources in front of me, but Sarah Anne was buried at a place called Hillside Cemetery. I've never been able to discover the location of this cemetery, but up until a short time ago I've always assumed it was in Portage La Prairie. I say "but" because I've never seen any cemeteries in Portage La Prairie on any of the maps I've looked at, and just a few days ago I found a message board where someone was researching her relatives that died in Morden in the 1920s and were buried in a place called Hillside Cemetery. Now I realize PLP and Morden are about 100km away from eachother, but could these Hillside Cemeteries been one and the same? I've looked through the cemetery index on the Web site for the Manitoba Genealogical Society (where they state they've index over 90 percent of Manitoba's cemeteries), and find no mention of a Hillside Cemetery. The only entry that comes even remotely close (by name and by location) is a Belmont Hillside cemetery in the RM of Strathcona (presumably in or near Belmont). It couldn't be that one, could it? I wouldn't think one would travel over 50km just to bury someone. I'm basically grasping at straws here. I haven't made any phone calls, yet, but I've nearly exhausted my Internet resources. I figured this mailing list would be my last attempt before I start making phone calls. Has anyone ever heard of or know anything about this Hillside Cemetery (i.e. Does it exist? Where is it?) Thanks, Bob Maguire
