Hi Jim, I think the place you are looking for is Winkler, Manitoba (of course, I have been known to be wrong before!) http://www.winkleronline.com is rather a commercial site but thought you might be interested in the area. There are 5 Defehr's listed on the Dominion Land Grants page at the National Archives of Canada. Also in the Canadian Expidtionery Forces of WWI, there is a John Defehr listed. You can find these at: http://www.archives.ca . Click on ArchiviaNet and there are the areas to explore. I checked the telephone directory listings for Defehr in Winkler, and found none, but there are 17 listed in the Winnipeg area, and one in Lac du Bonnet, no where near Winkler.
