    3. Hi List, I sent this to the MB central list but did not receive any replies, so maybe someone on this list will know. I have my g. g. grandfather's ( Valentine Straube ) death date as June 3, 1903, at Portage la Prairie, age 77 yrs. He is buried at Hillside cemetery in section 1RC. Can anyone tell me if there was a newspaper there at that time and if there would likely be an obituary for him? He was a business man in the town for quite a few years. Also, would there be any access via the internet, or an address I could write, as I live in rural Alberta. The Portage la Prairie library told me the city has no archives. Any help or suggestions is gratefully appreciated. Thanks in advance, Sincerely, Judy elista@telusplanet.net

    3. Hello Judy, the local newspaper for Portage La Prairie in the early 1900s was The Daily Graphic. I know they were publishing in 1917, but I'm not too sure about 1903. You can contact either the Manitoba Archives at http://www.gov.mb.ca/chc/archives/ or the National Archives of Canada in Ottawa at http://www.collectionscanada.ca/index-e.html to see if they lend out the microfilms. Good luck Norm Fraser ----- Original Message ----- From: "elista" <elista@telusplanet.net> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 06, 2004 10:34 AM Subject: [CAN-Manitoba] Portage la Prairie newspaper. > Hi List, > > I sent this to the MB central list but did not receive any replies, so > maybe someone on this list will know. > > I have my g. g. grandfather's ( Valentine Straube ) death date as June 3, > 1903, at Portage la Prairie, age 77 yrs.
