    3. Have you tried a native genealogy site..such as http://www.cyberus.ca/~mfdunn/metis/Abogene/genelink.html http://www.surnameweb.org/registry/d/u/r/durand.shtml http://search.about.com/fullsearch.htm?terms=native+american==genealogy&x=8& y=10 http://genealogy.about.com/hobbies/genealogy/msubcanada-bc_data.htm?rnk=r1&t erms=Canadian+native+genealogy and last but not least you can email John Leclair jleclair@sk.sympatico.ca as he is native and will be glad to talk to you about it and tell you possibly where else to look..If I can remember where I was I am sure there were Durands listed on a native site with the red river settlement and I think I went into Canada, then genealogy and tried the links there..I hope these sites will keep you busy for awhile and I wish you every success..If you run across a Gail Morin (Morrin)try getting hold of her as she has the red river settlement listings of people too.I am out of suggestions at this point.. You said you were from NY? I am looking for relatives, Acadians who fled to Rhode Island when the English tried to drive them out of Canada, who later went by the name of Laplume , because he was a chicken farmer..His real name has become lost and that I would love to find out..Oh Well we all have our crosses to bear eh? lol... From: "Sue & Will Durand" <swdurand@fltg.net> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, August 22, 2000 3:25 PM Subject: [CAN-Manitoba] Durand : Hi Listers - I'm new to the list, and new to research in general, but I am finding interesting info and tidbits just reading your messages. Maybe someone can help me. : : My husband's grandfather, George Arden DURAND, was born Jan. 10, 1896 in Canada (presumably Winnipeg). His parents were George DURAND and Rose HOUGH, also born in Canada. I have written to Manitoba Vital Statistics and they do not have a birth record for him. The other info I have on George Arden DURAND is that he was in Superior, WI in 1905 at the Math (Matthew?) Carpenter School, by 1927 he was married and living in Rochester, NY, and he died in Bath, NY in 1959. I have no info on his parents other than he is supposedly of French Canadian and Blackfoot Indian descent. : : Would it be wise to try to find a birth record in another Canadian Province (Quebec, maybe), or should I try another route to obtain some info. Living in NYS, I need to do most of my research via the internet or mail. : : Thanks for your help.
