Hello Gerry, Manitoba Semi Weekly Free Press March 29, 1900 ELLIS-On the 21st inst., at the general hospital, of cancer, John Ellis, in the 65th year of his age. I found another John Ellis in The Hills of Home rural municipality of Thompson book which was written in 1967. John Ellis was born in Stonewall, Manitoba in 1885. He married Rose Snowdon of Altamont, Man., who was born in 1887. They farmed in the Altamont district before coming to Miami in 1929 were they bought the N. half Sec. 33-4-6. John Ellis was one of those men who threshed for many years with the old steam engines, doing his own and also custom work. After coming to the Miami district he was often called on to doctor sick animals for his neighbors. Many times he sat up all night with a sick horse or cow. Their son, Harvey, farmed on the half section known as the Huehn place on 4-5-6 for a few years. When he went into the service, Raymond farmed this half section and worked with his father on the home farm until Mr. Ellis suffered a stroke in 1948. At this time Mr. and Mrs. John Ellis retired to Miami and Raymond and his wife moved on to the home farm. Mr. Ellis passed away April 25, 1954 and was buried in the Miami cemetery. Mrs. Ellis is still residing in Miami. The farm was later sold to Jacob Friesen and the half section on 4-5-6- to Dan Harder. The family of Mr. and Mrs. John Ellis is: Raymond, who married Alice Menzies and resides in Miami; Doris, Mrs. Jim Sprott living Miami; Harvey, who married Violet Huehn, living in Winnipeg; Gerald, who married Norma McLeod a former school teacher. They live in Ottawa, Ontario since his retirement from the services. On the Manitoba GenWeb page there is a volunteer lookup section that lists a book R.M. of Ellis 1883-1983. The Ellis' in it are a John Ellis from Nova Scotia. Rupert Ellis who is the son of John. Scott Sr. also son of John. Scotty Ellis born 1895. Joseph Ellis born in 1900. Owen Ellis (Tim). If you are interested give the lookup an email. Another book, They Came For The Future, Teulon and District History book also has an Ellis. Major Edward Ellis from Puslinch County, Ontario married Margaret McEwen and lived north of Stonewall. Daughter Mary, son Thomas. Major Ellis died in 1911. Long story.
