    3. Bette: There were newspapers in Winnipeg and area in 1886. The Winnipeg/Manitoba Free Press was around. It is available from the Legislative Library via interlibrary loan. You will need to know the month and year and they will be able to send it to you. I have never tried it so I am not sure how long it will take. Also if you are close to a university they may carry copies of the reels, I know the University of Alberta has the Free Press as does the Edmonton Public Library. But be forewarned obits are not always together or easy to find. I almost went blind looking for a couple in the 1870's. Sometimes they are news articles sometimes they are just brief mentions.
