Hi, My grandfather Neil Nicholson's parents imigrated from Isle of Skye, Scotland to Canada around 1860 where they worked in the lumber industry. His parents, William and Kate Nicholson moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a few years later to work in the copper mines. Apparently they moved back to Manitoba temporarily, however, because my grandfather was born in Manitoba in 1875. The only Nicholsons I can find on the 1881 census are Donald and Elizabeth Nicholson (both born in Scotland in 1850's) and James and Agnes Nicholson (both born in Scotland in the 1830's). James and Agnes named two of their children William and Kate, I notice. Both families were living in Winnipeg, Selkirk and James is listed as a lumber merchant. I think these must be the family that I am looking for. I am wondering if anyone on the list might, by chance have any information about these families or be able to advise me where to look for information. I would appreciate any help at all, since I was not sure which area of Canada I should be looking in before and have just discovered the Manitoba link. Thanks so much, Sheila
