Your Honourable Premier Doer, On behalf of the genealogical public I ask that you consummate the changes to the Vital Statistics Act as proposed by his Honourable Ron LEMIEUX as outlined in his News Release dated December 12, 2000 or make any changes that would give equal access to historical Vital Statistic records as is available in British Columbia through the BC Archives. http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm#indexes and advise the genealogical public through: [email protected] and [email protected] of any action taken by your government in this matter. In January 2002 I wrote to his Honourable Scott Smith regarding proposed changes to the MB Vital Statistic Act that the genealogical public were and are anxiously awaiting for (see following). Many people from all over the world are searching their roots and access to historical records such as Births, Deaths and Marriages is important to their research. Here in BC we can search an index at BC Archives for deaths over 20 years old, marriages over 75 years old and births over 100 years old. The actual transcription of the event registration is available (for a cost if ordered on the internet) at the BC Archives (an excellent revenue generation idea) and also available to researchers on microfilm at major libraries in BC. We hope that you will take care of this important step in furthering Manitoba's global excellence in our new Millennium and please keep us researchers informed of your progress. I am a subscriber to MB News Releases...and my roots are in MB. I thank you for your attention. Hurray for Viv! Your letter was so inspiring that I sent one off as well (which is quite unlike me!).
