Greetings, Lois: Well, there's nothing like picking up the mail only to find about 200 messages piled up! Oh, I've been really busy the past few days. We had a Folk Festival here, and I was doing tarot card readings. I had to be at the Festival site to set up on Friday evening, then over 12 hours each day on Saturday and Sunday. Monday, I went out in the morning to take down my booth, and then I got sick to my belly, and I spent the rest of the day mostly sleeping. At least I'm feeling well now, but it was really exhausting. Finally I'm getting caught up on responding to all the messages. lois remillard wrote: > > what's your interest in Swan River? ... My 1st cousin 3x removed, Matilda Ann FIRTH, married Robert James SMITH. Following Robert's death, she moved with several of her children to that part of the country. The children that I know of are: John Firth SMITH, 1873-1939 Maggie A. SMITH, 1876-1878 Hairsine SMITH, 1877-????, m: Lottie MUTTART (his full name may be Stephen Humberston Hairsine SMITH) Louisa SMITH, abt 1882-1950, m: Gus JOHNSON of Bowsman, Man. There were also children from Robert's second wife, Elizabeth Honeyford, of whom I only know that one was named Richard SMITH. The children of Hairsine SMITH and Lottie Muttart include: Robert, Margaret, Sidney, Bertha, Ashley, Ivan, Jack, David and Lorna. > Maybe the library has copies to sell.. In my experience, libraries won't sell books, if they did, the local bookstores would be infuriated. Maybe the local tourism bureau would have some, or the Chamber of Commerce, or the municipal office. There also may be a local history society, and the society probably compiled the info for the book. Any help much appreciated, Patricia Sherman > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "software" <software@yellowknife.com> > To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, July 18, 2000 12:04 AM > Subject: Re: [CAN-Manitoba] Question from Listowner > : I'm searching in the Beautiful Plains and the Portage Plains regions. > : More specifically, Burnside, Bagot, Glendale, Langford, Neepawa, Portage > : la Prairie, Rosedale.
