Sorry, I made one mistake, 1 Rod by 1/2 of a mile = 1acre of land.. (not a rod by a mile) mile = 5280 feet surveyors rod = 16.5 feet 1 mile = 320 surveyors rods 1 rod by a 1/2 mile = 1 Acre 1/4 Section = 160 Acres (1/2 mile by a 1/2 mile) Some quarter sections in my nieghbourhood were also split 4 ways, into 40 acre wood lots..? 1 Section = 640 Arces (1mile x 1mile) also a surveyors rod = 594 barleycorn, 226.285714285714 fingers, 66 palms, 49.5 hands, 44 cloth fingers, 11 Biblical cubits, or 0.025 of a furlong. also Townships are numbered from south to north starting at the U.S. border. i.e. Township 1 would start at the US border, Township 2 would start 6 miles from US border and so on.. also from Manitoba Geograpical Land Maps on 1007 Century St. in Wpg.. I got a copy of 3-7 from 1873 with the name of the purchacer and sale number of each 1/4 listed on it... If your interested they probaly have the same for all the other township/ranges in Manitoba also.
