    1. DEBLAERE
    2. In the Belgian EMIGRANTEN NAAR AMERIKA 1905, there appears: SS Montreal, Antwerp 18 Apr 1905 Quebec Jules DeBLAERE, age 28, from Wingene, farmer, travels to St. Boniface, manitoba, to Charles LAMBERT who works there in a flour mill and earns $2.00 per day. Takes 60 Belgian francs with him and speak flemish. I believe this man could be my grandmother's brother. My grandmother died when I was 10 years old. There are two pictures that my grandfather told me were Jules and his family, but I have nothing on him as far as birth date or who he married. In the pictures, it appears he had 6 daughters. In that picture, they are standing on what looks like animals pelts. It is possible he was a shoemaker at one time. My grandfather said my grandmother kept up on her family and, of course, once she was gone...it was of no matter. I would love to find more of her family. I did find a 2nd cousin; grandson of another brother and he has visited us in the U.S. twice now and we have very much enjoyed it. If anyone can help me prove or disprove this lead, please contact me. VBasford@aol.com Thanks so much. Ginny in Florida USA

    2. Kylie Veale
    3. Fellow genealogists, Have you ever used the Internet to learn about genealogy methods and resources? Taken a genealogy course online? Read some 'how to' articles? Then I would like to hear from you. I am an Australian Ph.D. student who is currently writing a book chapter for an academic Virtual Learning Environment publication - my chapter is about using the Internet for genealogical education. I would therefore love to hear from you, fellow genealogists, about any Internet-based content you've used for genealogy education. This includes online courses (free or fee), how-to's, articles/columns, newsgroups, BBS, chat, mailing lists, forums, or even personal web pages that publish learning material - anything online that helps you in learning the craft of genealogy. Your comments on the following is of utmost interest: What are your favourite learning outlets on the Internet? How often do you use them? Can or did you find what you needed online? What are your learning successes? What could be better? What do you look for in genealogical learning on the Internet? If you would like to participate, your comments are extremely welcome. Please send your comments to me directly at research@veale.com.au before Saturday 1st May 2004. I thank you in advance for your participation in this academic research. Kylie Veale P.S. 3. I don't know if these are your Harrisons but they might be. There is a William Harrison born 1 January 1844 in Ontario. He was a farmer, Church of England and he lived on (or at least owned) Section 19, Township 6, Range 5, near Carman in 1901. His wife was Margaret, born 3 April 1843 in Ontario, and they had two children, Thomas, age 15 and Mary, age 11, both born in Manitoba. Source: 1901 Census, Lisgar, Dufferin, Subdistrict B2, page 3. I think that William and Mary are the same people who were enumerated in Dufferin as family No.4 in the 1881 census. She was born Mary McCullough. There are entries for the following Harrison families in the History of the Rural Municipality of Dufferin, 1880-1980. ALBERT MARSHAL HARRISON (1886-1980) JOHN HARRISON (1841-1908) JOHN S. 3. Janet, If you are looking for Downey's with a Manitoba connection I can offer one more. Charles Erwin Downey s/o John Downey and Ukn. born 24 May 1875 in Stayner, Ontario. He married a Margaret Cooper Sinclair in Winnipeg in 1904. That marriage is in the Maitoba Archives but I have not requested the registration. Charles and Margaret Downey moved to the Salmon Arm area of B.C., via Vancouver possibly, shortly thereafter. Charles, according to his obituary did have a sister by the name of Hopgood who remained in Manitoba. There were others in the family who moved to B.C. I don't know if there is any connection but if you think there is I do have some further information. 3. Dear Doris, Thank you so very much for the look-up of Karna Okeson......I forgot to mention that she emigrated under the name Karna Akesson. Just cannot seem to find her anywherey....but your look-up eliminates one area for me...unfortunately her death was not long enough ago to be able to access Vital Statistics. Again thank you, your kindness is much appreciated.
