I am trying to help a 91 year old man in the UK find his uncle. He was suppose to have moved to the Winnipeg area and might have been a furniture maker. This would have been around 1920-28. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Betty
Hi, I have a picture of two gentlemen, who may be either Moore or Patterson, or one of each. The photographer was J. F. Mitchell, 566 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Written in ink on the back is the date 6th Jan 1895. Can you tell me any other info from your photographers books? Thanks, Cheryl ----- Original Message ----- From: Hilary Machan <shmachan@scsinternet.com> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, April 18, 2004 11:30 AM Subject: [CAN-Manitoba] Photographers lists > It sure does. Hello Darlene Yes the land in question is in Manitoba. It is within a mile of Marison but if you can't find that on your map, find Kirkella which is on the No. 1 Highway, first town in the from the Saskatchewan border. Then go straight north 8 miles should get you pretty close to the spot. Judy, I thought I would pass this information along in case there are other people like me who have never figured out how to convert legal descriptions. You have made things so much easier for me. I went to the website you gave me: http://www.maptown.com/coordinates.html I keyed in the legal description and it converted it to latitude and longitude. Then I went to http://www.mapquest.com/maps/latlong.adp and keyed in the latitude and longitude and it showed me the map of the exact spot. Thanks for your help. To anyone researching in Manitoba, the abbreviation is MB. MN is a USA abbreviation for a state. If you are looking for Virden, MN, then you need to look in Minnesota, not Manitoba. Cheryl
Hello Listers Does anyone on the list have a copy of the local history book written for Virden MN? Would you do a look up for me? William and Elizabeth (Edith) CROW is the family I am looking for. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you Judy

Thanks to the kind person who replied to my post. I am not the one researching the Warsaba family, but was asked to do look-ups for someone else. If that person could reply, letting me know if they still want info, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Cheryl
Hi Sometime in 1963, widowed sisters parished in a fire. They were probably living in/near Carman, MB. Mary Isobella (Pritchard) Stevens Elizabeth (Pritchard) McCallum. Does anyone know if there is a newspaper for that area of the Province? If so, is it archived/microfilmed? Can someone do a lookup for me? Since the deaths were accidental there may also be an article on the incident. Appreciate any assistance. Bev Powell bwpowell@sympatico.ca Strathroy, Ontario, Canada
Don, I can see why you haven't been able to find this family in the 1901 or 1906 census, at least not the easy way. Not all of Emerson has been transcribed yet (hint, hint), so one would have to read each individual page to find them I suspect. As well, like you, I couldn't find more on this ADAMS family in Ourroots/Nos Racines, the Western Dominion Land Grants or Ontario Marriages. I would suspect that Walter Adams remarried since Anna died within a couple of weeks of Harold's birth. I expect you found this Adams marriage in Emerson. GROOM'S LAST NAME: TURNER GROOM'S GIVEN NAMES: JAMES STEPHEN BRIDE'S LAST NAME: ADAMS BRIDE'S GIVEN NAMES: EFFIE MAY DATE OF MARRIAGE: 06/15/1910 PLACE OF MARRIAGE: EMERSON REGISTRATION NUMBER: 1910,003462 REGISTRATION DATE: The Adams name doesn't seem that prominent in Emerson, so I wondered if this was a possible relative. The only 'clue' to this family that I could locate was a possible 1881 census entry for a Walter & Catherine Adams. Walter ADAMS M Male Scottish 32 O <Ontario> Farmer C. Presbyterian Catherine ADAMS M Female Scottish 26 O <Ontario> C. Presbyterian Source Information: Census Place Carrick, Bruce South, Ontario Family History Library Film 1375910 NA Film Number C-13274 District 176 Sub-district D Division 1 Page Number 27 Household Number 127 I mention only because this particular Catherine is married to a Walter Adams and would have a birth date of 1855, and the Catherine who dies in Emerson should have a birthdate of about 1856. Also, further searching (checking out the 1871 * 1881 census) puts both an Adams family and a Phillips family in Bruce Co. - the Adams living in Carrick and the Phillips in Kinloss. 1881: Living also in district 176, sub-district D, Division 1, pg. 28, household 129 (2 doors away) and looking like Walter's brother with family are: George ADAMS, Scottish, 42, b. ON, farmer, Presby. Margaret Adams, 32, b. Scotland, Presby. Agness, 3, b. ON, Presby. Esibela, 1, b. ON, Presby. Magey, b. Mar 1881 ON, Presby. Phillips in Kinloss: District 176, Sub-district B Alexander Phillips, Irish, 40, b. ON, farmer, Presby. with wife Susanna, 38, b. Ireland, Jane, 9, Alexander 7, William 1 and a hired hand James McCain. But that didn't help much with Emerson I'm afraid! Bette
William Kindrie born ca 1820 Trafalgar Halton Ontario - married Anna born ca 1829 Ontario - children Adline, Amos, Alfred, Eliva, Lewis - lived in Cedar Springs, Kent Co. MI 1870 USA census - 1881 Canadian census Mountain, Marquette Manitoba - William not listed 1881 census - Anyone have a connection? Thank you. DeAnne
Hi: I am searching for another illusive female line: Walter Adams b. abt. 1849 wife: Anna Catherine Phillips b. 27 Nov 1854 York Co., ON. d. 08 Nov 1893 Emerson, MN. children: Ethel Edgar Earl Mary Henry Wilfred Rita Harold b. 27 Oct. 1893, Emerson, MN. The passing of Anna Catherine and the birth of Harold are recorded in the MN. civil registration records on line. Has anyone come across this family in their research? I am picking at the on-line 1901 Census database from Ottawa, but have not had any success....yet. The information I have is from newspaper clippings. I do not know how accurate they are. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much, Doug Graham Penetanguishene, ON. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Friends. Fun. Try the all-new Yahoo! Messenger
