BRAILLI doesn't show up anywhere in Canada in the 1906 census and none are located in Canada 411 either. Did they change their name? Or move, possibly to the US? -- Bette Kosmolak

My aunt, Anne Pich died in Dauphin on Sunday, August 15, 2004. Can someone please look up her obituary in the Dauphin Herald for me. Colleen in New Zealand
Hi Colleen, Just checked The Dauphin Herald for Tuesday 17 Aug 2004 - there is no listing for obits and no mention of Anne Pich. The website is http://www.dauphinherald.com/class.htm You might try checking it this coming Tuesday or Wednesday. Good luck in your search. Perhaps someone who subscribes to the newspaper might be able to assist. Would anyone happen to know where one might get the gravestone inscription for the following persons buried in Hillside Cemetery, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba? Alexander RICHARDSON 1815 - 1897 and his wife Margaret (McFarlane) RICHARDSON 1822 - 1900. They are buried in Hillside Cemetery, Portage La Prairie, Manitoba Thanks -- Bob === Robert Neil Chatham-Kent, ON rneil@ciaccess.com
Hi Bette: Thanks for the information on Elizabeth McGOWAN. I have heard from several other people as well and I thank you all very much for this information. As it turns out, I think the McGOWAN family lived in the Rural Municipality of Louise, so it is quite possible Elizabeth was in hospital in Winniped and died there. I have a few more details to discover, such as where the family was in the 1891 census. David died in May 1901 so he ;probably isn't in that census. Thanks again very much for all the help from the List members. You are a gret List and very helpful If I can be of assistance in research in York County, Ontario, particularly in Vahan & King Twps. just let me know and I'll do what I can. Hi Ive run into a brick wall in searching the ancestors for my great grandfather John Wood (born abt 1888, died May 12, 1968, married Mildred Gertrude Bruce (born October 13, 1890 in R.M. of St. Clements) They did reside in Manigotagan, and had a large family however I havent been able to trace back further on John Wood. Any hints, guidance, suggestions would be most welcome! Thank you Roxanne
Hi Alice: I don't have a connection to a MARWOOD family, but I do have McGILLIVRAY, sisters of my Grandfather,Lot 20, Conc 9 Vau Twp. York Co. who went "west" and I am still trying to track them down. Catherine McG 1841 - 1872, in 1860 married Donald CAMERON and they lived somewhere in Manitoba. Christina McG 1842 - 1884, in 1872 married Robert CAMERON b. 1834, a brother of Donald, and they "went West". Mary Jane McG 1852-1922 married in 1876, Dan MacDONALD b. 1846 and they also lived somewhere in Manitoba. I have the names of their children, but no dates. Also Dan McGILLIVRAY 1848 - 1945 , a brother of my Grandfather William McGILLIVRAY, had a farm somewhere around Oak Lake, we think, but he had 7 years of bad luck - frost and drought and finally abandoned his farm and went to the Yukon and finally ended up in Grand Forks, B.C. The parents of the above McGILLIVRAY "girls" & Dan, was Neil McGILLIVRAY Jr. 1802-1884 and Flora BEATON 1812 - 1898, both from the Isle of Mull, Argyle, Scotland. Any help as to location "out West" would be very much appreciated. Thanks Anne Stevens Newmarket, Ont. As you search Manitoba, will you please be on the look out for my great grandmother, Ella Jane Howard b 1861 in Ontario. I last found her on her daughter's marriage certificate 30 Oct 1899 in Winnipeg. She is next found in 1919 on her half sister's will as Ella Jane Schofield in Swan River ,MB, I don't have any information about her between those years. I have tried to find her in Winnipeg in the 1901 Census or on the City Directory for those missing years. As yet I haven't found her. I don't know when or where she died either. Her husband Lewis Schofield died in Swan River in 1848. I have his death information. Thanks Marita

Hi Roy: Thanks to you Roy, Pat Williamson and Janet MacDonald, I have finally found Elizabeth McGowan and her husband David McGowan - in the Rural Municipality of Louise. I thank you all so much for taking the trouble to look up these records. I must admit I was completely lost in Manitoba when it comes to knowing where to look, or even what records are available on-line. You are so helpful on your mailing list. I really thought I was making a shot in the dark when I put my query on the Mailing List, but not so. Elizabeth WALLWIN McGOWAN was the last of my Grandfather's sisters to be "found", and thanks to all of you, I can now add to my family history. Her death date matches the one in the Family Bible. I don't know when they left Ontario for Manitoba, but they should be in the 1891 census. Now that I know where they lived, I can look it up on-line. Thank you all again for your help. You're a great list. Anne Stevens (nee Walwin) Newmarket, Ont. Registration # 1893,003071, and David McGowan, age 49, died May 28, 1901 in the rural Municipality of Louise, Registration # 1901,003146. The R. M. of Louise is in southern Manitoba about 200 klm west of Winnipeg. If you send the registration # to the Manitoba archives along with $12.00 per request they will send you what info they have. Check out gov.mb.ca and you can print out your own form. Could not find them in the 1881 census. Will try and find David in the 1901 census if my library has the records for Louise. I am a new subscriber to the list, and wondered if anyone had an index to the 1881 and 1891 census and would do a look-up for me, the best probability would be the 1881 & 1891 census. I am looking for David McGOWAN and his wife Elizabeth WALLWIN. Elizabeth was born in 1854 in Riddings, Derbs. England, and died 3 Nov. 1893, according to the family bible. I don't know anything about David McGOWAN - no dates at all. Apparently they went to Manitoba sometime after 1870, but I haven't been able to find out where in Manitoba. Every web site I have tried has turned up nil. Any help would be very much appreciated. Anne Stevens Newmarket, Ont.
Anne: If you go to the LDS site for the 1881 census there are 10 David McGowans listed. It can be accessed at the following: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=census/search_census.asp You could input Elizabeth's name instead if you wish.
