    1. Lockhart, Forrest, DeVere, Vere, Douglas, Dawson, Wallace, Hasileig, Dickson
    2. CATT
    3. These are some of the families mentioned from The Upper Ward of Lanarkshire, mentioned in the collected Tales and Legends of the Upper Ward of Lanarkshire, Scotland, published in Biggar, Scotland by D. Lockhart. Probably previously published in a newspaper in Biggar, Scotland, before being published in 1860 as a book. Margory Weir, a tale of James V -- Popular superstitions -- William Dawson, the Covenanter -- Hunting lodge of James V -- The marriage of Wallace -- Death of young Hasileig -- The murder of Marion -- Mary Dickson, a tale of Douglas -- De Vere, of Craig-Lockhart Castle -- William Douglas, of Covington Castle -- Sir Symon Lockhart -- The Knights of the Thummle -- The blood-stained altar -- Forrest, the rebel trooper -- Ada De Vere, a legend of Stonebyres. The record gives no author, but rather D. Lockhart as publisher, in Biggar. Is the book in someone's library or a book seller's library somewhere? Would anyone who has read any of these tales tell us what they are about. I have ancestors names among the families mentioned in the Tales.

    1. World War I research kindness from Belgium.....!
    2. Murray Pletsch
    3. Dear Fellow Researchers: This evening I received the message quoted verbatum my signature below, from a gentleman in Belgium who has undertaken a very noble task as explained thoroughly in his message. Because I had not heard of his worthy project on any of the Mailing Lists I administer or subscribe to I asked him if he wanted me to announce his project to several mailing lists across Canada. Johan responded saying that yes he would like the word to be passed......but he added one caveat. He is currently backlogged with requests from other commonwealth countries and a delay should be expected. His is a very generous offer and I am sure most researchers would agree, his efforts are very commendable. Please direct all queries to Johan at his address at the bottom of his message below. Best regards...*M u r r a y P l e t s c h* Alt Email: gravemarkers@hotmail.com *N E O n t a r i o G r a v e m a r k e r G a l l e r y* http://nocgg.maddoc.net ************************************************************* QUOTE ^^^^^^^^^ Hello, I'm a World War 1 researcher from Belgium. For the moment I'm doing a lot of research for Australians, New Zealanders,Irish, Canadians and British to locate their family members who were killed during the Great War in Belgium or France. If you have any relative who fought in my country during the WW1, I would be glad the locate him and sent you a picture of his headstone. This is free of charge.( For searches and pictures in France ask for details). The only thing I would like in return is his picture. Why? If the picture is of good quality then I plastify it and place it next to the headstone. This way the thousands of tourists who visit these cemeteries can see who's really buried there and do not just see the lonely, sad stone. If you have more questions do not hesitate to contact me regards Johan Moors - johan.moors2@pandora.be UNQUOTE ^^^^^^^^^^^^^

    3. Hi all How would I go about getting a death certificate for my grt grt uncle Imri, who died in 1915? This is what I have found so far about his family; http://www.russellmb.com/ THE SKELDING FAMILY (written in) 1967 Imri Skelding, chain maker, with wife Susan and son William arrived in Russell from Staffordshire, England, in September, 1909. Susan's sister, Elizabeth Lightfoot and her husband Fred had arrived in Russell the year before. After an unsuccessful try at farming in the Boulton district Imri worked in Russell for Tom Lyron at paper hanging and painting, particularly in the Presbyterian Church, then being built. A daughter, Elizabeth, now Mrs. W. J. Thomson, was born soon after the family reached Russell. When in Grade XI at Russell school, Elizabeth won the Governor-General's Medal. The Skeldings returned to England in 1912 but were back in 1913 to stay. Other members of the family meanwhile reached Russell, brother Jack Skelding and Arthur Leech, brother of Susan. Imri worked for Harry Clee the blacksmith, until his death in April, 1915. Susan married Jack Skelding and one child, Edith, now Mrs. Stan Kennaugh, was born. Susan was again widowed and moved to Winnipeg in 1925, where she died in 1960.

    3. To All: For those of you who are also interested in the History of Manitoba and west, with stories about some of the more interestesting ancestors in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta, I recommend the above book. It gives one a feel for the times and happenings when our ancestors came West. We borrowed it from the Public Library and it is very interesting. Book was published by GREYSTONE PRESS, Vancouver/Toronto ISBN 1-55054-415-2. It is very readable and we are enjoying it. Am sure this book is probably available by interloan.
