    1. Amy Mathews ne McGregor
    2. Gregor Macgregor
    3. I am looking for any information about the Matthews family that were living in Winnipeg in the early 20th centrary: Amy McGregor emigrated to Canada in 1890, with her sister Ethel and possibly her brothers James and Edwin. It is possible she also travelled with her future husband James; as he emigrated in the same year Amy married James William Matthews (born 17th June 1865), on 27th of September 1895 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They lived at 141 Spence Street Winnipeg, and were there at a wedding on 22nd of Feb. 1917, when Annie Edith Yorke married Phillip Henry Gerrish. James was a licentiate of the Royal Academy and Royal College of Music / (Concert Organist's Diploma) and worked as a music teacher and, as many music teachers did at the time, described himself as a Professor. He was the organist of the Central Congregational Church in Winnipeg. He was also an adjudicator at the first Edmonton Kiwanis Music Festival in 1908. In the 1901 census he claimed an income of $1,000. Together they had four children: * William McGregor Matthews: Born 24th August 1896 in Winnipeg. * Harold Whitehouse Matthews: Born 18th August 1898 in Winnipeg. * James Hubert Matthews: Born about 1903 in Winnipeg. * Joseph L Matthews. Born 1906 in Winnipeg. Became a salesman at the Radio Corporation of Winnipeg. James William Matthews died on the 26th September 1924 at St Boniface, Winnipeg. Amy carried on living at 141 Spence Street, but in 1937 is reported at 248 Langside Street. She did not stay long here, because by 1944 she was at #3- 100 Rose Street (Melrose Apartments). Finally in 1954 she moved to 1100 Garfield Street. In 1958 she ceases to be listed, so it is assumed that she died in 1957. 1. WEIR, de Vere, Wier, Wear, Ware, van de Vere, Vandiver Surname Project
    2. CATT
    3. This is for the male Weir family members, to find out to which Weir group they have come from in our World. Female Weir descendants do not pass on the Y Chromosome of their father, so cannot do the test. Their brothers and father or male cousins with the surname of Weir can contribute. However, the female descendants could contribute monetarily for one of their branch to have their DNA tested to aid the whole family group or branch. So get in touch with those male Weir cousins. > The Weir DNA Project > > Register here: > http://www.familytreedna.com/surname_join.asp?code=F34568&special=true > The Male 37 marker test ($229) is the one that is most useful test for > our purposes. Peter Funk died 4 Feb 1971 but we don't know where. When Agatha Toews Funk died they were living on NW 7-8-5e. From the limited map I have I see that there is a Willowridge school on this section. I am looking for any information on descendants of this family, sons Jacob, Peter and Gerhard and a daughter ??. From the second marriage there was a daughter and 2 sons. Thanks for any help. Nancy

    2. Dear Listers, We're just beginning research on Richard H. MARTYR (b. c1884 in England). We have a lead on a family member listed as living in Laribiere. (This is from a WWI Draft Registration in Alaska.) Would anyone be able to locate this town for us? I believe the family member living there may be a wife (that we're not actually aware of) or possibly a sister. We have no idea what became of Richard so any help would certainly be appreciated. Thank you! Joan NS, Canada
