    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Missing Great-Grandfather!
    2. Ann McClean
    3. I am trying to trace my Great-Grandfather, Walter SCOTT. He was born in Christchurch, Cambridgeshire, U.K. in 1868 to John & Hannah SCOTT. He had a brother Frederick and a sister, Emily. Walter left for Canada 1901 onwards. Where he sailed from, where he dis-embarked and where he settled I do not know, as I have only just found out about him! His family were then, wealthy farmers so I would assume he got a land grant and started farming. Ideas anyone?! 3. Hello Manitobans! I am searching my family name of Mark. I have just rcvd information that one of my female Mark was living in Manitoba. Her name was Mary Adeline Mark-Wood who lived in Xeruville, Manitoba. I am not sure of the town's name or spelling (sorry). Perhaps someone can let me know if there is a name similar to that. Mary lived there in around the early 1900's. Her father was Hugh Mark who died in Ontario in 1907. She had 3 brothers: Albert Mark = Oregon. James Mark, Ontario and Howard Mark of Arizona. Anything sound familiar?? Would love to hear from anyone who has suggestions re the above people and town. Thanks so much for any info. Joyce - Saskatoon

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] FORD-COCKBAINE-TOWNSEND
    2. Robert Ford
    3. Hello, I'm new to this list and my reason for joining is that my grandparents emigrated to Manitoba from England in the 1874-1887 time period. The COCKBAINEs homesteaded at Pigeon Lake. In the 1891 census, SARAH FORD TOWNSEND is shown as the housekeeper for the three COCKBAINE brothers. The sister of the COCKBAINE brothers, Eliza, married HENRY JOHN FORD at Portage La Prairie in 1890. My objectives is to find Henry John Ford and Sarah Ford Townsend in the 1881 census of Manitoba. I'm trying to find out whether Sarah's husband, John Townsend, emigrated with her to Canada, and if so, when he died. In the 1901 census, Sarah was living in British Columbia, and using her maiden name of Ford, showing herself as a widow. I don't recall whether the 1891 census of Manitoba showed the marital status? Can any list member tell me whether the 1881 census of Manitoba is indexed? 3. Hi everyone, I've just joined this list as I am looking for the family of Angus MacDonald of Brandon. My grandmother, Catherine Jane MacDonald married my grandfather, Frederick Stillman Whiteside, on October 5, 1877 in Brandon. Unfortunately, I know very little about the rest of the family and hope that SKS will help me out. I gather that they had a large farm in Brandon & were quite well-known in the community. 1. [CAN-Manitoba] PARISH and OXLEY
    2. Gregory Ade
    3. Hi, I am new to this list. Are there any descendants of Frederick and Robert Edward PARISH out there? They were my mother's Uncles and were born in 1880 and 1887. They were born in Enfield North London. UK It is believed they emigrated to Canada in the early 1900s. My mother and her remaining sisters never met them as they were young but were told they had left England. Are there any PARISH families out there who can help. My Great Aunt Olive(Parish) from North London married a Frank Oxley who came from Canada in the early 20s. They went back to Winnipeg and then moved to a bungalow on a ranch out in the plains. They came back to England but she became ill with cancer and died. Frank Oxley went back to Canada. Does anyone know of that Oxley family? >From Jackie Ade Polegate East Sussex England.

    1. Restone Manitoba Cemetery and Roll Call of my family...
    2. DW
    3. Hello everyone, I have recently been in contact with the RM of Pipestone and through them the gentleman that holds the cemetery registers for Reston, Manitoba. I thought I would post this information here so as to keep the list abreast of my findings... Apparently sometime in the mid 1950's the storage facilities where the Reston town cemetery books were kept had a fire. The record books were saved but suffered a great deal of damage and all entries prior to about 1950 are illegible. From what I was told there is a large section in the cemetery that has unmarked graves for the time period prior to 1950. I have contacted local churches in hopes of locating further information on my great aunt who I believe passed away in Reston between 1905 and 1914. With a large bit of luck there may be some records kept by the church. The people I am researching for the area of Pipestone/Reston are Thomas Herbert Sales (born 1875 (fibbed about the year often) of Oxted, Surrey, England) Susan Wilson Murray Sales (born approx. 1868, Ontario) Henry James Murray Sales (born 1897, Ontario) Shirley Sales (born ? after 1904 before 1914) Any information on these people would be greatly appreciated. 3. I am looking for information about deaths and burial locations for Sarah (CAMPBELL) COLBERT and John COLBERT. They were living in Winnipeg in 1901 and I believe that they stayed there until they died. Sarah died circa 1920 and John died circa 1932. I have a letter from The City of Winnipeg Parks and Recreation Department stating that there is no record of them in Brookside, Vital or Transcona Cemeteries. Are there other cemeteries in the Winnipeg area? The other possibility is a burial in the Springfield area because that is where they were originally at the time of their marriage. Does anyone have acccess to cemetery records for the Springfield area? Is it a town or an region? Alan Campbell

In particular I a trying to find the birth place of my husband's father, John Seaward Rigby, born September 23, 1905 or 1906. Other names in this family were- Emma Parsons/Rigby - mother Hazel Rigby - sister Lillian Rigby - sister Clyde Edward Rigby - brother William Wilmot Rigby - brother Frank Rigby - brother If anyone has any bit of information on this family, I would be most grateful or if anyone can give me information as to where to search. 1. Birth Cert?
    2. Gordon W. Beavington
    3. David King of Cheltenham England, emailed me because I live in Canada has asked me for help. My knowledge of Manitoba is very limited and wonder if SKS would email David with a few answers to his questions. Quote Gordon The purpose of this email is simply to ask, with your local knowledge and kindred interests, if you know of an address in Canada where I might make an enquiry re may father's birth certificate. The circumstances leading to my wanting to do this are as follows:- My late father (Harold Douglas Hanks) was born in Crystal City, Manitoba on 19 March 1917. He came to England in 1921 after his father (Horace Leslie Hanks b.18.10.1893) was gassed in France whilst with the Canadian Expeditionary Force. After he was invalided back to England he was told that with his then one remaining lung he would not survive if he returned to his farming life with his wife and children in Manitoba. Consequently my grandmother had to uproot on her own and came back with my father & his older brother (Edward Leslie Hanks) to join my grandfather and to try and farm in Naunton again when his health was improved - not an easy task. They had gone to Canada in 1912 to make a fresh start because there were basically too many of them for the land to sustain in the village. 1. RE: Turtle Mountain/EVANS
    2. My research for the EVANS family in Manitoba has lead me to 'Turtle Mountain'. Is there someone on the list that will share some information about this area. I believe it is located not too far from North Dakota and Snowflake? The names that I am researching are EVANS, MAY & WHITE. Mabel May Evans Tennant, I believe was born in Turtle Mountain in 1888. Need to locate more information. Her parents? Her siblings? Other family? Are there any volunteers who would look up a birth record for me? Perhaps an 1891 census? Or, if someone would provide a location and address of where I could write, I will do that. Thank you so much. Diane

    1. Re: White/Evans/May
    2. Hello, I was wondering the same thing, Debbie. Since I got your post, it must be working. I am looking for information on the following families: Thomas White married Elizabeth May Evans in Huron County in 1864 and moved to Snowflake, Manitoba. Elizabeth had been married to John Evans who died in 1861. They had 7 children and Thomas and Elizabeth had at least one ore child, Amanda. Thomas had some children of his own, as well. Kinda of a 'Your's, Mine and Our's' situation. The names of Elizabeth May and John Evans are: Hannah, William, Isaac, Evan, Elizabeth, Joseph, and John T*. John T* is the ancestor I have information on. Would appreciate hearing from anyone who may have a connection to these families or knowledge of them. Thank you, so much, Diane DW wrote: > Hi Everyone... > > I'm just wondering if this in an active list or not...
