    1. [CAN-Manitoba] LOCKRIDGE/LOCKERIDGE
    2. nancy butterfield
    3. I'm new to the list. Here's the information I have. Joseph Lockridge, 1792-1884, and his wife Elizabeth, 1802-1884, settled in Tamworth, Ontario, in 1846. They farmed Conc 9, lot 8, township Sheffield, County Addington, nine children, one of these being Joseph, 1830-1900. He married Isabella Girvin March 27, 1860 and they lived on a farm in East Wasanosh, Huron County, Ontario, until moving to Manitoba. Before arriving in Canada, they lived in Carnmoney, Antrim, Ireland, and before that in Ayr, Scotland. It was on their change to Manitoba that the surname changed from Lockridge to Lockeridge." They had 14 children. Joseph, my grandfather, was born in 1867. Married Ada Whalley. Two children, Ellen, my mother, and Walter. Joseph and Ada both died quite young. Isabella Girvin was born about 1840 in Carrickfergus, Ireland, and came to Canada on a sailing ship (six weeks journey) at about 19 years old. Met Joe Lockeridge who also had come out from Ireland. Isabella died when she was about 78. They lived in Bethany, Manitoba. What I am trying, without any success at all, is where and when Joseph and Ada died and where they are buried. My mother was born in Brandon. The family farmed in several locations around Bethany. Nancy Butterfield in WA, USA

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Information Needed
    2. software
    3. I need information about homesteading in the Hudson Bay area of Eastern Saskatchewan. I have trawled the internet and the library, and even spent hours in (on) Canada's virtual museum site trying to get the details I need. Do anyone here have anything on the legal aspects of homesteading in the 1940's? I need to confirm that returning servicemen were entitled to a land grant (as I understand my father and his brothers rec'd); the size of the grant, I have 160 acres; the period that the holder had to start farming the land; how much land had to be cultivated in the allotted time; and if the land could legally be assigned to another person, particularly to a non-related female. I am also looking for information about how rural justice was administered in the 1920's or 30's. Any information would help, such a old court documents, judgments, etc. Maybe old newspaper reports. Anything that you think could be useful, could you send me a scan, please. I am also looking for authentic information about dress fabrics, the uses and colours of parachute silk, make-up and hair care products in the 40's! I have managed to dredge up some of this by talking to elderly women. You can get some lovely anecdotal information by engaging folk in chat about the 'good old days'. The problem with this is that sometimes the info is conflicting and I believe that some of my informants are confusing the 50's with the 40's. For example, was hair lacquer available in the mid 40's, or did it arrive in the 50's? Thanks, Patricia Sherman
