    3. You might want to check out this site: http://www.minnedosatribune.com/heritage.htm I also am trying to locate the email address of a gentleman who has a book about Minnedosa, he did a look up for me a few months ago - I thought I got his name from the Manitoba Genweb pages but I just can't find it. I'll keep looking, perhaps someone else out there is familiar with this? You might try contacting Lynn Ward at: rfward@telusplanet.net, I was able to get Minnedosa Cemetery Records from Lynn. Good luck - I'll keep looking for the email address I mentioned. - ------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? Send instant messages with Yahoo! Messenger.

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] location of Hillside Cemetery
    2. Bob Maguire
    3. Hello. I'm trying to research my GG Grandfather Robert MAGUIRE and his wife Sarah Anne (no known maiden name) that were married in Ontario and migrated to Portage La Prairie in 1894. They both lived out the remainder of their lives there, Robert dying in 1929 and Sarah Anne in 1936. I can't recall off-hand, as I don't have my sources in front of me, but Sarah Anne was buried at a place called Hillside Cemetery. I've never been able to discover the location of this cemetery, but up until a short time ago I've always assumed it was in Portage La Prairie. I say "but" because I've never seen any cemeteries in Portage La Prairie on any of the maps I've looked at, and just a few days ago I found a message board where someone was researching her relatives that died in Morden in the 1920s and were buried in a place called Hillside Cemetery. Now I realize PLP and Morden are about 100km away from eachother, but could these Hillside Cemeteries been one and the same? I've looked through the cemetery index on the Web site for the Manitoba Genealogical Society (where they state they've index over 90 percent of Manitoba's cemeteries), and find no mention of a Hillside Cemetery. The only entry that comes even remotely close (by name and by location) is a Belmont Hillside cemetery in the RM of Strathcona (presumably in or near Belmont). It couldn't be that one, could it? I wouldn't think one would travel over 50km just to bury someone. I'm basically grasping at straws here. I haven't made any phone calls, yet, but I've nearly exhausted my Internet resources. I figured this mailing list would be my last attempt before I start making phone calls. Has anyone ever heard of or know anything about this Hillside Cemetery (i.e. Does it exist? Where is it?) Thanks, Bob Maguire

    2. Susan Vilandre
    3. I am researching my Ukrainian roots and have found information from ShipsList and InfoUkes about my grandparents arrival in Canada from Ukraine in 1930. The left from Southampton and their arrival was Quebec. In one of the documents it mentioned that their contact in Canada was the Superintent of the CPR, Winnipeg. They settled in Alberta fairly soon after arrival in Canada. Having just read a book on Ukrainians in North America it states that there was some sort of "clearing house" for immigrants wanting to settle in the prairies through Winnipeg. Can anyone help me get any information on how the immigrants were introduced to their new communities? To the best of my knowledge my grandparents and their two young children had no other family here in Canada, so am at a bit of a loss as to how they would know they wanted to go to Alberta. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.....Susan ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com.

    3. Ross: I had the same problem. Went to ArchiviaNet and look under Post Offices. http://www.archives.ca/exec/naweb.dll?fs&0201&e&top&0 If my town wasn't listed, used the name of a nearby town. That gave me the electoral districts for the towns and areas in question. I've been to MB GenWeb but didn't find a map with electoral boundries in 1901. However, if you are near a major Can. library, they will have the microfilm and an index to it. Failing that, your closest LDS Family History Center can help you get the right films. Is there a map online, that shows the major voting districts? I am seeking data on: Minto, located on #10 Highway, south of Brandon. Birnie, located on #5 Highway, north of Neepawa. Makinak, southeast of Dauphin, south of #5 Highway, along a grid road. 3. There is no place simply named Nelson. There are, however, Port Nelson and Nelson House. Port Nelson is at the mounth of the Nelson River, on the shore od Hudson's Bay. Nelson House is about 300 km upriver, about 50 km straight wset from Thompson, Manitoba. Both are in the far north. Port Nelson and Nelson House were both old Hudson Bay Company trading posts. As a point of interest, my ex-hubby was the first white child ever born at Nelson House, and that occurred in 1953. His father was a minister there. 2. software
    3. ROSEDALE CEMETERY ... Extracted from book "Rosedale Remembers" Credit and notes for the Rosedale Cemetery transcription is as follows: By Nell Potter and Mildred Kilburn The land for the Rosedale Cemetery was donated by R.G. Buchanan. The first burial was Mrs. John S. Buchanan of Riding Mountain. When the road allowance was built, the grave had to be moved further north in the cemetery. R.G. Buchanan's first wife, Anna Marie Coulter, was buried there in 1911. This little cemetery on SE 25-15-15 has been in use since 1882, and is now maintained by Rosedale Municipality, although many of the graves are kept up by the families of the deceased. Many of the names found in the cemetery have long since disappeared, as far as the district is concerned. Since there is not and never has been a cemetery at Eden, some residents were buried there also. Rosedale Cemetery is located four miles (6.5 km) north of Neepawa on the old #5 highway. Rosedale Municipality have had a sign made to mark the location.
