    3. Hi Gail, I would be interested in anything you might find on my paternal grandfather William Henry Willcock and his family, who was born I believe in Nottingham, probably in the 1880s or 1890s. He would have left Nottingham for Swansea, Wales, possibly 1905-1910. He died in Felixstowe, England, around 1952-1953. I would also be interested in anything on my maternal grandfather Herbert Voke, who was born in Chichester, probably also in the 1880s or 1890s. I believe he had a brother Charles. He left for South Africa probably between 1910 and 1915. 2. Ron Davies
    3. Hi Gail, How kind of you to offer to do lookups. I have one request, at least to begin and I fear it may prove difficult. My Great Grandfather was born in Wales but I don't have a clue where and the birthdate I have is questionable. Nonetheless, here goes: Thomas William Davies, probably born 1824 but I've also seen 1827. I know only for certain the date of his marriage in Canada: 1852 so my guess is that he arrived in Chatham, ON circa 1845 and 1850 unless he was a fast worker on arrival ! :-) His marriage records give no clue as to his parents or birthdate, only the witnesses, etc. Be warned, you probably will find many by this exact name. Thus the date of birth becomes highly important. Thanks so very much. Ron Davies Surrey, B.C. 1. [CAN-Manitoba] MOREAU/BRUNELLE
    2. Hello to Winnepeg listers. I am looking for descendants of Ferdinand MOREAU and Amelia BRUNELLE whose children Wilfred, Ludvik, Virginia, and Amelia (although this may be their mother) were listed in the probate of the will of Napolean MOREAU aka Paul MARROW in Deer Lodge, Montana on 13 July 1937. Some of these offspring were married in St. Eustache during the 1910's and 1920's. I'm particularily interested in the names of the parents of Fredinand. I believe Fredinand and Amelia were married in Deer Lodge but those records are now sealed. I will really appreciate any help that can be provided. Thank you very much for considering this request. John

    3. Sept 6, 2000 Dear Listers: In august I posted an address for St. John Anglican Archives the correct address etc is below: The Diocese of Rupert's Land Anglican Center 935 Nesbitt Bay Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 1W6 Phone: 204-453-6130 Fax: 204-452-3915 Brenda Palz was the lady of the archives in charge in the summer of 1999. She is wonderful and very helpful. They do charge for copies and certificates. They also allow you to look at the microfilm if you book an appointment. They have records dating back to 1820's for baptisms, marriages and deaths. Initially Rev John West was the only minister, non-Catholic, in western Canada and would travel to baptize and marry people. Sorry for my earlier error in the address. Janet St. Albert, Alberta

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Environics Research Omnibus Survey re: Post 1901 Census
    2. Gordon A. WATTS
    3. Greetings All. At last. The long awaited Report of the Environics Research Omnibus Surveys on Public Attitudes relating to access to Post 1901 Census has been posted on the Statistics Canada website. It is an Adobe PDF file that downloads when you access the link. You require the Adobe Acrobat reader to view the document. It is 27 pages long and you will probably want to print it out for easy reading. Go to http://www.statcan.ca/english/census96/interm.htm and click on the link labelled "Report on Public Attitudes". This downloads the English language version. The document in French is accessed by first accessing the French side of the Statistics Canada website. We have not yet seen the Report of the Expert Panel. In speaking today with yet another Assistant to John Manley I sensed some uncertainty about what she was telling me. She thought that Mr. Manley was currently conducting meetings relating to the Report of the Expert Panel but could not say with any certainty that such was the case. She indicated that she would check and get back to me. Rest assured I will let everyone know as soon as I find out anything. In the meantime I would encourage everyone to continue with writing letters. Please let us know of any responses you get. I am off to read the Environics Research report. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. 1. [CAN-Manitoba] BARNARDO CHILDRENS HOMES & ANY OTHERS
    2. Gerrie
    3. Hello All, I am posting this question for a fellow Lister who is looking for her grandfather Joseph MARTIN who was a "British Home Child" born 3 April 1886 @ Queenstown Ireland. She is asking if any of these children were sent to Manitoba or Saskatchewan. I know there was a Barnardo Home @ Russel Manitoba. Does anyone know of any others in Manitoba or even Saskatchewan? There were 100,000 children sent from Britain to Canada between 1870 & 1948, some as young as 3 years old. It is estimated now that there are 4 million Canadian descendants of these children. Could you be one of them & not aware of it? There is a BRITISHHOMECHILDREN Mailing List. To subscribe: send the word "subscribe" only, in the body of the message to: BRITISHHOMECHILDREN-L-request@rootsweb.com See the Web Site at: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~britishhomechildren If you know of any childrens homes, orphanages etc. We would appreciate a message. Thanks for any help. Gerrie

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] New Subscriber
    2. Gail Koppanyi
    3. Hello All I am a new subscriber. I though I would let you know the surnames and places I am researching. My grandmother and grandfather came from England. They settled in the Hamiota area around 1914 or 15. The names are Frederick and Ellen Wheeler. While in Hamiota, they had a child named Rosie Evelyn who died as an infant she was probably born in 1915. Their next child (my Mother) was Margaret Annie Francis. While in Hamiota, in 1932, my grandmother also died. My mother was 16 and remembers very little of the details. After my grandmothers death, my grandfather moved to Kenton. He was the custodian at the Kenton School for many years before his retirement. If anyone has any information on the Wheelers, I would be forever grateful. Regards Gail Koppanyi email: gkoppany@home.com
