Hi everyone, Looking for information on John Matthew EASTMAN. He was born in North Sydney, Nova Scotia in 1906. He moved to Winnipeg with his family in 1912. In 1924, at the age of 18, he left home. His sisters thought that he had moved to the USA. No one is certain where he went. I'm wondering if he might have remained in Manitoba. Or he may have returned to Nova Scotia. His sisters were Henrietta Alice Eastman married to Walter Rollerson in Winnipeg in 1918; and Frances Jane Eastman who never married. These sisters eventually moved to BC. John also had an aunt Frances (Eastman) Wortman who died in Winnipeg in the 1930's. If anyone has ever heard of this family or knows of any possible descendants, I would appreciate any info at all! Any suggestions of places to search? John Eastman is my half-uncle & I would love to know what happened to him. He's a missing branch on my family tree. Thanks, Barb Campbell
Searching gen info on Elsey name between 1900-1920, Any SKS's help in BDM's for this period would be great. Thanks in advance. Jud

I'd be happy to help you out. Their reply ticks me off! I had no idea that was the case and I'm not even sure I really believe it, because I'm sure others have received the docs. But let's get them for you one way or the other. Feel free to email me off list and we can share what info we need to. Bette
I made a request (and sent $5.00) under the ACCESS TO INFORMATION (ATI) ACT for the Naturalization Records of my G-Grandfather who settled in Manitoba. I desperately want to know where he came from. They wrote back stating that I need to be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or an individual or corporation presently in Canada. I do not meet ANY of these requirements! They also stated that I could resubmit my request through an individual who has right of access and that my written consent authorizing him/her to receive my personal information would also be required. How are people handling this? Is there any Canadian Citizen who would be willing to submit my request? Colleen Perry in Minnesota cmpsoft@aol.com
I have no desire to d/l more software. Will this material be made accessible in any other format (i.e. HTML or plain text)? I would like to read it, but I'm just fed-up with Rich Text formatting and all the other latest fancy jeejaws. Sincerely, Patricia Sherman "Gordon A. WATTS" wrote: > > Greetings All. > > At last. Hi List, I have a big favor to ask. Is there anyone who has access to the MGS Surname Card Index for cemetery transcriptions who would be willing to do a look up of a few names for me? Hi Leah I have finally sent you the Manitoba map that I promised. You probably have this website but I just found it. www.westmanitoba.com Click on McConnell for Viola Dale information. Good luck in your search Lynda
Lynda, For old photographs of Winnipeg streets, try a query to the Manitoba Archives, the U of Manitoba archives (they have an Dept. of Architecture at U of M and so have lots of photos and drawings related to city architecture in the archives I believe), of the City of Winnipeg archives. At least those are the places I might try. Bette
Hi List, Thanks to the 'Genealogical Acts of Kindness Site', I am now the proud owner of a photograph of the house at number 281 King Edward Street, where my grandfather ( Anthony Proud Corner ) once lived. I was wondering if there is anybody out there that may have a photograph, or may know where I can get a photograph, of the house or street as it used to look around the time of 1910/15 ? Thank you in advance. Yours Hopefully - Lynda Redfern.

Hi Lynda, Maybe contacting Churches in that area explaining what you are seeking. Maybe they know people who live on that street (or descendants of) that may have old photographs, etc. Just a thought. Margaret: If no one can do a look up for you. Then you can request an inter-library loan of the microfilm. The Manitoba Free Press microfilm reels are located at the Legislative Library in Winnipeg. You will need to know the month and year of the death. I am not sure if there is a charge. Some universities and public libraries also have copies of microfilms of newspapers. I know the university of Alberta in Edmonton does. I am not sure if they carry the Manitoba Free Press, but if you are living near a university it might be worth a call. Hope this helps. I am writing to ask someone to do me a favor. My husband's grandfather died in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1931 and we would like to get a copy of the obituary which appeared in the Manitoba Free Press, in the November 21, 1931 edition. It is just a brief write-up. A copy was sent with some legal papers but it is unreadable, therefore the reason for this request. I am willing to pay for photocopy, postage, etc or perhaps someone could tell me how I could request a copy of it. Thank you in advance. Margaret
