    1. [CAN-Manitoba] RE Off Topic
    2. Just a short, off-topic note that I hope is OK. I wanted to compliment the Canadian "Snowbirds' who I saw preform in an air show at the Eugene, Oregon Airport this weekend. What a fantastic show they put on. Can't imagine what the Wright Brothers, *Amelia Earhart, & Charles Lindburgh would think of today's airplanes. Can anyone tell me just where the 'Snowbirds" are from? Please comment off list. Thanks, Diane

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Brown family
    2. I'm looking for info on John H.(?) BROWN, who lived in Neepawa. He died in December 1938. I have a letter he wrote to my Grandparents in Jan. 1928 in which he mentions a trip he and his wife (Bella?) took to Los Angeles the previous summer. He writes of Maggie living in Los Angeles. Bella apparently had a stroke while they were in LA. He writes of attending the "old boys reunions" in both Galt and Brussels in July of 1927. John had a son James who lived in Saskatchewan. John BROWN had a brother James BROWN, who I believe married to Emma MERRITT. James lived in Milverton. I believe James BROWN's children were Walter BROWN and Hattie BROWN PATTERSON. Any information on this family greatly appreciated. Alice

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Re PHILIPSON FAMILY
    2. Chisholm & Co.
    3. I am trying to find and locate any information re the PHILIPSON FAMILY, and inparticular my grandfather Christopher Philipson. He was born January 11th 1878, the son of Robert Philipson and Agnes Wood. His marriage certificate lists place of birth as Ontario but extensive searches there have proved fruitless. Family stories recount that he at one time lived with his parents and grandparents on a small farm outside Winnipeg. Other children of Robert and Agnes were Isobel, Robert and Agnes. Agnes and Isobel are reported to have died from diptheria in theie early teens Robert is supposed to have died 1901? Both Christopher's parents died in the early 1880? and he was reared by his grandmother Philipson and 3 uncles?, brothers of his father. The two younger ones are said to have worked in the early cinema industry in New York. A search of Manitoba Births for the Birth of Christopher have turned in a nil result. Birth date given before registration required. If anybody has any information or details re this family they would be greatly received. Regards Neil Chisholm Australia.

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Stevens family
    2. Arthur Manley
    3. Hello: I am looking for some information regarding my aunt Minnie who lived in Winnipeg Manitoba. Minnie married a Henry Stevens b. Saint John New Brunswick likely in the 1880s, d. June 5 1945; Minnie b. October 4 1888, d. March 7 1971; both are buried in the Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg, MN; they had 3 children: Lawrence, Manley & Margaret. I do not have any information regarding the children, when they were born, where, if they are still living, or any other details. If anyone has any suggestions regarding finding the children and information regarding them, I would appreciate it very much. I have thought of phoning all the Stevens in the Winnipeg phone book but the number when I last looked at it was over 300 persons. I would like to have an alternative method of finding them before trying this approach. Yours truly Arthur Manley Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] McClung
    2. Margaret Nex
    3. I have the book about Nellie McClung by Carol L. Hancock, and will post to the list the answers about Nellie: Nellie Letitia Mooney (Nellie is a nickname for Ellen) was born Oct 20, 1873,Grey County, Ontario, and died at age 77,on Sept 1, 1951, at her home on Lantern Lane,Saanich, (Victoria,) BC. She was the youngest of 6 children and was raised by a strict Scottish Presbyterian mother and Irish Methodist father. The Mooney family moved to Manitoba in 1880 and homesteaded near present day Wawnesa. At age 15 she entered Norman School in Winnipeg (1889) and in 1890 she begins teaching at Hazel School, near Somerset, Manitoba. In 1892 she began teaching at Manitou, Manitoba and boards with the McClung family. In 1896 she married Robert Wesley McClung, and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1946. Wes' parents were Anne E. McClung and Rev. J.A. McClung. In 1911 Nellie and Wes moved to Winnipeg, in 1914 they moved to Edmonton, in 1923 they moved to Calgary. In 1935 they moved to their last home in Saanich,(Victoria), BC. Her husband, Wes, died in Saanich at age 86, Nov 1, 1958. This is from the brief overview in the book, there is not much else. But if you check her autobiography "Clearing the West" you might find more information.

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Nellie Mooney McCLUNG, 1873 - 1951
    2. Daniel G Dobson
    3. Good Morning, According to a story told by senior family members my grandfather is related to Nellie Mooney McClung (1873 - 1951) According to the book "A New History of Grey County" it records her marriage in 1896 to a R Wesley McClung and indicates she died 1951-09-01 in Victoria, British Columbia. I checked the British Columbia Vital Statistic page and found a Robert Wesley McClung died 1958-11-01, age 86 at Saanich and Letitia Ellen McClung died 1951-09-01, age 77 at Saanich. Does any one know if Letitia Ellen McClung is Nellie McClung? After going through some genealogical material I inherited from my parents I suspect that the actual family connection is to her husband Robert Wesley McClung. Does any one know the names of Robert Wesley McClung's parent? According to one source his father is J. A. McClung. According to notes found in my parents collection we have a McClung family that left Ontario for Manitoba and from there the trail goes cold. Any help in solving this family mystery is appreciated. Thank you Dan Dobson
