I need some help trying to track down some information on Elizabeth Hanna(h). She was born in Ontario around 1830 the (twin) sister of Samuel Hanna who died in Griswold Manitoba in 1897. She apparently never married and eventually left Seaforth, Ontario to follow several of her brothers who went west Samuel, Hiram and Sidney. Vague family recollections say that she dealt in grain on the Winnipeg exchange which was highly unusual for the times . She also apparently lived to a ripe old age. According to a sister's obituary she was still alive in 1918 and lived in Winnipeg. I have no idea when or where she died or how to check if she in fact dealt on the Exchange. I did find an e-mail address for the Exchange but never did get a reply to my enquiry. Any help, suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Margaret Ann, Toronto

Hello all I am trying to locate a copy of a book by CHRISTOPHER HACKETT--- in collaberation with the Manitoba Historical Society. "A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF MANITOBA LOCAL HISTORY " 1st.edition 1981 2nd 1989 . I hear my gr.parents are in this book as being among the first pioneers in the Woodnorth/Virden area in Manitoba . This book is available at the library but cannot be taken out ( historical reasons ) and I was hoping to find somebody that has one that would perhaps allow me to copy some passages from it . You just never know !!! Here's keeping my fingers crossed . Judith
Hi Victoria Thanks for the map link you sent---I never would have thought there were so many routes! Bet they just loved Lady Simpson for carting that piano all over the place by canoe, can you imagine? Since your e-mail I have learned my gr.father was a farmer and that he found himself in the Virden area and lived the rest of his life there so I would think he would have come here by way of Lower Fort Garry. Take care and Happy Hunting!! Hello Chris, I saw your message on the MB. list. If I'm off base just delete me. I am a birth sister looking for my siblings given up for adoption. It is your French names that caught my eye. I have no names or dates, maybe the babies arrived every year and a half. My lawyer told me about the only thing I could do was to look for people who had familiar names from Home. Marcel and Lambert are two just names. I have located a lady from Hamilton, Ontario. whose info coinsides with mine on a lot of points, but she dark complexioned and was told she was French Canadian. This is a sticking point for her, it is difficult for her to consider something other than what she has always believed. We are exchanging photos. You information is eerily familiar to my Mom entry into Canada. the sisters, the brother, someone dying in WW1. If you are not looking for your birth family please forgive me for cluttering up your e mail.
