Their website is @ http://www.archives.ca There are ships lists there. They also have an on-line searchable database, just click on ArchivaNet and it will take you there. You may find them in the Land Grants section, it was open until 1930, for immigrants to apply for farm land in Western Canada. Hope this is of some help. Vicki

    3. Tansi, Terry? Kiyas! My g-great grandfather was Joseph Cook, b. 1842, and his wife's name was Margaret. His father was Charles Cook, or Pupahmekapow. They were from northern Manitoba, in the Cumberland House/The Pas area. I have the names of all the children, but I have never been able to make the connection to William Hemmings Cook. There are some Cooks in Cranberry Portage Manitoba who have told me that my grandmother Harriet Cook was their aunt. I know that their grandfather was Jeremiah "Jerry" Cook, a descendant of William Hemmings, but at that point I've hit a brick wall. Any ideas? Posted on: Manitoba, Canada Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/Canada/Manitoba/General/2379 Surname: Welsh, Playfair, Roux, McNeil ------------------------- I found my Welsh family line in the Manitoba Census for 1901 for thirteen family members, five of whom were born in Manitoba, but I'm still looking for earlier census that might have shown the elder Welsh, Edward, b. 1838 in Quebec, with perhaps his father and mother's names as they had immigrated from Ireland to Canada. Also looking for the parents of Sophia Playfair, b. 1841 in Ontario, wife of Edward Welsh. Also searching for information on Emma McNeil, born in Winnepeg, Manitoba, married Charles Adolphus Roux, b. Alsace Lorraine, and had twin girls, Loretta and Louise in 1898 in Portage la Prairie. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Terry tspear@flash.net

    3. unfortunately no..my uncles were Lalondes and they also died from T.B. I guess around the 40's ..I just remember them stopping by as we live in Wpg, on their way to the Sanitarium..It has since been discovered that since there was 4 of them that died from T.B., it was probably C.F and that it runs in families..These boys were the case studies on Cystic Fibrosis. My daughter was just saying that she thinks it ( Sanitarium) is slated for the wrecking ball and I don't have any idea where the records would be found..I don't even know where Ninette is.... ----- Original Message ----- From: <marquis@powersurfr.com> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, December 09, 2000 12:42 PM Subject: [CAN-Manitoba] Ninette Sanitorium : Hi: : I also had a relative that died there also. 3. Hi Nancy, The Sanatorium was indeed in Ninette. It is south of Brandon while Neepawa is North-east of Brandon. The TB patients were sent there to get plenty of rest, sunshine and fresh air. Perhaps your Grandfather was not diagnosed in time, or perhaps the doctor felt that he would recover quite well in Neepawa..............fresh air & sunshine are abundant there also. 3. Margaret Ann: Have you checked the 1901 census for Winnipeg through Ancestry.com. It is free right now. Victoria sent a message on how to access Ancestry.com. It is free until Dec 20th. Then if you find her on the original nominal schedule you can dtermine her address by looking at schedule 2 then maybe you can use Henderson directory to find out more info. The Manitoba Genealogical Society will also do a search of their cemetery recordings for a fee. Happy hunting!
