    3. Gail I appreciate the offer as this is the first offer from Ninette, so to speak.. I don't know if all 4 died in the Ninette San ..I knew them as Maurice, Dean. Chris or Noel & Alec Lalonde..As far as I knew they all died real young..I don't think any of them reached their 20's. Dean could be Eugene, & Alec would be Alexandre possibly..I would certainly love to see the picture..I have become close to their remaining brother ( he and a sister were adopted out as infants after they lost both their parents..so we didn't really know them)so if they resemble one another I may be able to pick them out..This would be so great and if mom was alive she'd be thrilled to pieces... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gail Peltz" <beaver_peltz@yahoo.com> To: <CAN-MANITOBA-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, December 10, 2000 1:48 PM Subject: Re: [CAN-Manitoba] Ninette Sanitorium : My husband's father was also at the Ninette Sanitarium : in the 40's and we have many old photo's that include : many people some named others not. 3. The Ninette Sanitorium doesn't exist as a sanitorium any more but the buildings are used for Pelican Lake Centre a facility for handicapped citizens. This is according to a wonderful book on the sanitorium. "Holy Ground, The Story of the Manitoba Sanatorium at Ninette", David B. Stewart ,1999 Published by J.A. Victor David Museum Inc, Box 584, Killarney, MB Printed by Leech Printing Ltd, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada ISBN: 0-9685548-0-6 It is a history of the sanitorium and TB treatment in Manitoba from the viewpoint of Dr. David B. Stewart who grew up at the sanitorium, where his father Dr. D.A. Stewart was the first medical superintendent. I picked it up in Brandon, Manitoba at McGilligan Booksellers, 707 Rosser Ave. Phone (204) 727-0971 for $18 this summer. The money goes to the museum in Killarney. My interest was from my grandmother-in-law who had worked there in her late teens to earn money to go to high school. She had many fond memories of the place. 3. The Red River ox carts went from Minneapolis-St. Paul to the Fargo area and then north to Winnipeg along the Red River of the North. Their wooden wheels were ungreased and the creaking could be heard for miles over the prairie. In the 1960's the ruts which the ox-carts had made could still be seen behind my father-in-law's house in Stearns County, MN. Nicki LewHolt@aol.com wrote: > Sorry, I don't have any info on your line. 2. Thanks John, Interesting site. I checked it out. Red River Cart is a polka. I learned it from a record of Joe Pancerzewski . A fiddler who lived in Washington state until his death a few years ago. He may have been originally from Canada. He was known as The Fiddler Engineer, as he was a railroad eng. 3. Hi, Alice....I'm also a fiddler.....the Red River Cart is what we Metis people travelled and hauled freight with back in the 1800's. Not to be confused with the Red River Jig, which was and still is a dance. Check this site for more info.. http://www.metisresourcecentre.mb.ca/ There's a picture of a cart on that page..... 1. [CAN-Manitoba] Virus Alert
    2. Victoria
    3. Hello, I have received two viruses yesterday and today! Fortunately I am too paranoid to open attachments without thoroughly examining them. If you receive an E-mail from "hahaha" with the subject "Snow White.......the real story......" DELETE IT IMMEDIATELY ! It is not a Snow White virus, it was a W95.hybris.gen and I understand quite rare. Mine was addressed to "undisclosed persons" and was sent by hahaha@sexyfun.net and it seems to be going through some of the lists. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get this from a list as Rootsweb strips attachments at the server, so just be forewarned! Sorry Phyllis if this is a no-no! Victoria Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
