    2. Evelyn Jenner
    3. Hello everyone Our family are searching for the families of these people who left Edenbridge, Kent, in the early 1920s. We believe they were in the WINNIPEG area. The people we would like to find are the descendants of Edith Avis PATTENDEN who married Harry Dennis PENNICARD. We know of two daughters Denise Mary Pennicard and Dora Edith Pennicard. Edith PATTENDEN was our Grandfathers, Henry James PATTENDENs, twin. The other family we would like to make contact with are the family of Tom BAKER, who went to Winnipeg around the same time. He was half brother to the above Edith Avis PATTENDEN and our Grandfather here in England. We understand a member of the family returned to Edenbridge looking for family, but most were out of the area. If anyone recognises the names we would love to hear from you. With regards Evelyn

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Census Enumeration Dates - Canada
    2. Donna Alden-Bugden
    3. FYI: Hi, I found this at National Archives...for those of you who think that all Canadian Censuses were enumerated on Mar 31st or Apr 1st, think again!!! These are the dates that people are told to give their age in reference to regardless of when they were actually asked the question. The question for most seems to be posed like this..."How old will you be on April 4, 1881?"...even though they may have been 62 on April 5th and they responded on May 1st, they are supposed to respond 61 since that is how old they were on April 4th. ***************Dates of Census enumerations**************** In most cases, the following list indicates the official enumeration dates for the various census returns. The actual enumeration of the population took weeks or months. Enumerators were instructed to record the information on the census returns as it existed on the official enumeration date. 1825 — Lower Canada (Quebec) taken from 20 June to 20 September 1825 1831 — Lower Canada (Quebec) taken from 1 June to 1 October 1831 1842 — Canada West (Ontario) returns were supposed to be completed by 1 February 1842 1851 — 12 January 1852 (delays led to the late enumeration of the 1851 census) 1861 — 14 January 1861 1871 — 2 April 1871 1881 — 4 April 1881 1891 — 6 April 1891 1901 — 31 March 1901 *********************************************************** Donna Alden-Bugden WinnipegEmerg*REMOVE*@hotmail.com Remove the *REMOVE* part before e-mailing me Emergency Nurse ************************************************************

    1. [CAN-Manitoba] Myrtle Laura Shier and Helen Laura SIMONS
    2. Marjorie Landreville
    3. I'm looking for the birth place and parents of Myrtle Laura Shier, born 3 July 1885, daughter of Unknown Shier and Unknown Brezee. Also looking for birth place of Helen Laura Simons, daughter of Myrtle (above) and Robert Francis (or Franklin) Simons, born 13 Nov 1908. Myrtle was supposed to have been born in Canada, but I don't know a specific place. I'm assuming Manitoba because she married Robert F. Simons who was born and lived near Cavalier, Pembina County, ND, USA. Robert's parents, John H. and Elizabeth Simons had previously lived in Canada, having moved there from Pennsylvania. Since I have been unable to find Robert & Myrtle on the 1910 or 1920 censuses in the US, I thought it possible that they were then living in Canada, although they later moved to the US. I'm new to the search in Canada (I live in Oregon, USA), so would appreciate any help or suggestions anyone might have.

    3. Hurray for Viv! Your letter was so inspiring that I sent one off as well (which is quite unlike me!). Sandy Stokes in Ontario ----- Original Message ----- From: "vmk" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 24, 2002 1:41 AM Subject: [CAN-Manitoba] MB Vital Statistics Index Your Honourable Premier Doer, On behalf of the genealogical public I ask that you consummate the changes to the Vital Statistics Act as proposed by his Honourable Ron LEMIEUX as outlined in his News Release dated December 12, 2000 or make any changes that would give equal access to historical Vital Statistic records as is available in British Columbia through the BC Archives. http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm#indexes and advise the genealogical public through: [email protected] and [email protected] of any action taken by your government in this matter. In January 2002 I wrote to his Honourable Scott Smith regarding proposed changes to the MB Vital Statistic Act that the genealogical public were and are anxiously awaiting for (see following). Many people from all over the world are searching their roots and access to historical records such as Births, Deaths and Marriages is important to their research. Here in BC we can search an index at BC Archives for deaths over 20 years old, marriages over 75 years old and births over 100 years old. The actual transcription of the event registration is available (for a cost if ordered on the internet) at the BC Archives (an excellent revenue generation idea) and also available to researchers on microfilm at major libraries in BC. We hope that you will take care of this important step in furthering Manitoba's global excellence in our new Millennium and please keep us researchers informed of your progress. I am a subscriber to MB News Releases...and my roots are in MB. I thank you for your attention. 3. When sending your requests to the Manitoba government, please do not "advise the genealogical public through: [email protected] and [email protected]" These Mailing Lists are provided by RootsWeb for genealogical and historical research for those specific areas. http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-MANITOBA.html and http://lists.rootsweb.com/index/intl/CAN/CAN-MB-WINNIPEG.html I would suggest asking RootsWeb for a mailing list for this MB Vital Statistics Index project. 2. vmk
    3. Your Honourable Premier Doer, On behalf of the genealogical public I ask that you consummate the changes to the Vital Statistics Act as proposed by his Honourable Ron LEMIEUX as outlined in his News Release dated December 12, 2000 or make any changes that would give equal access to historical Vital Statistic records as is available in British Columbia through the BC Archives. http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/textual/governmt/vstats/v_events.htm#indexes and advise the genealogical public through: [email protected] and [email protected] of any action taken by your government in this matter. 1. [CAN-Manitoba] Information about Steinbach?
    2. Nils Weisensee
    3. Hi! My name is Nils Weisensee and I am a German exchange student at Hamline University, Minnesota, St.Paul. Thanks to a hint I got from this list, I am now researching the history of German immigrants in the cities of Steinbach and New Ulm. I would like to talk to some people who know a lot about Steinbach, its history and its culture. I am also very interested in how Steinbach is aware of its Russian, German and Mennonite roots and if there are still cultural links, relationships or other contacts to Russia and/or Germany. Can someone give me a hint to whom I should talk about that? Thank you very much! 3. I agree. Wasn't there mention of some records going on-line, similar to B.C.? Seems to me we were asked to write to a certain address to "encourage" them to do so, which I did. Haven't heard anything since. Anyone know what's happening? Norma Keren Carter wrote: > I ordered a death certificate from Manitoba and the cause of death was on > it. 3. I ordered a death certificate from Manitoba and the cause of death was on it. I did state that it was for genealogy purposes, as I always do, so that may be why the certificate was intact.
