    3. I too have a copies of heritage books and am willing to do lookups: I have the ones for Neepawa, Minnedosa, Eriksdale, and "They Stopped at a Good Place" which includes Beausejour, Brokenhead, Garson & Tyndall areas. I'm not surprised you couldn't get the book in Neepawa. They were only printed once in the 1980's, and almost by order. From what I can find, almost all heritage books are only available through secondhand book stores. In fact, many stores don't even like to carry these books because they are hard to market, except through the internet. I found the one on Beausejour in a tiny town on Vancouver Island and snatched it up because it only cost $10 and I figured that sooner or later someone would want it. Cheers, Bette

    3. Hi, Karen: I stand corrected. The dates on my book ARE 1883-1983. I don't know what I was thinking of. Anyhow, I have no problem with others offering to do lookups from the same book. It leaves me more time to do lookups from other sources. Treat that volume kindly. Mine was obtained last August from a used-book dealer in Vancouver, and it cost me over $80.00 by the time the shipping cost was added on. I wasn't even able to obtain a copy in Neepawa itself when I was there last summer, and the copy that is on display at the museum is in less good condition than my own. 3. Hello Tricia, Thanks for letting me know. I guess when I looked I just assumed you had the book. I checked out the book "Heritage A history of the Town of Neepawa and District as told and recorded by its people 1883-1983" from the library. It is compiled by the History Book Committee at Neepawa, Manitoba. Amicus #4684009. Is this the same book you have? It's a large book with a green cover. I'm only asking because if you have the book and were helping others with lookups from it I wouldn't have checked it out of the library. To me that would be like taking someone's fun away.I've printed off the list of volunteer lookups with books from the Manitoba board and the Western Region board and am trying to find books that aren't on those lists. I actually don't have the book. I have photocopies of the appendix pages that list the property-owners. I obtained the book through I_L_L, and had to send it back. The family histories section was almost word-for-word the same as I already have in the "Heritage: Neepawa - Land of Plenty, 1888-1988", so I saw no advantage in copying those. The property section is a very valuable resource, and I'll happily do the lookup, provided that I'm given the location, or a close approximation to it. Kind regards, tricia

    3. Hello John in Victoria, That sure is a lovely map for Brandon (the census district not the town)on the 1901 census. Appears to be in the Wallace District. Were you able to get any information from the book Steel and Grass Roots about the Elkhorn community? I can't remember if I told you or not but there is a lookup volunteer on the Western Region section with that book. http://www.rootsweb.com/~mbwest/lookups.htm I'm not sure about this but if the area of Elkhorn is in the Wallace township or was, there is another book called "Magnified Memories: The History of Wallace Township published by the township of Wallace in 1991. I can't find any townships maps on the internet but I did find municipal maps at http://communityprofiles.mb.ca/csd/ The Provincial Archives of Manitoba in Winnipeg have the land records and township plans from 1870-1930. They have a web site. They say their staff can do a limited search for persons unable to visit the archives in person. Might be worth an email. 3. Hello Joan in B.C., The only one I could find so far is a John Ingram who settled in the Mekiwin District in 1874 or 1875. Nothing else is said of him. Osprey later became a part of the Langford Municipality. You could look through the 1901 Canada census online. Osprey is north west of Neepawa. There is an Osprey history book that was compiled in 1967. A Mr. Davidson was a member of the Osprey school board and wrote a history of the Osprey school district. This history is in the Osprey book. There is a lookup volunteer in the Wester Region Section Patricia Sherman who has the book, Langford Municipality 1891-1991, which has a complete listing of property owners for all quarter-sections. http;//www.rootsweb.com/~mbwest/lookups.htm I don't believe this is the same book as the Osprey history book. If I find the correct name I'll post it. 3. Hello Hugh, Glad to see you made it on the mailing list. I was looking through the Western Region Manitoba GenWeb the other day and came across the section of lookup volunteers (http://www.rootsweb.com/~mbwest/lookups.htm). There are some books there that aren't posted on the Manitoba GenWeb lookup board (http://www.rootsweb.com/~canmb/lookups.htm).I thought just maybe there are people on the Manitoba mailing list that don't know that the town they are looking for might be in the Western Region and wouldn't know to go there and check out the books. That's why I mentioned the book to Len Good to hear Len's family was found in your book. 1. [CAN-Manitoba] book,"Heritage A history of the town of Neepawa and District
    2. Karen S
    3. I have the following library book called "Heritage A history of the town of Neepawa and District as told and recorded by its people 1883-1983." It was compiled by the History Book Committee at Neepawa, Manitoba. Amicus number 5938961. Earliest history of this district has it in the N.W. Territories. In 1881 it became the County of Beautiful Plains, subdivided into the municipalities of Lansdowne, Osprey, Glendale (later combined into Langford) and Rosedale. No index. Another library book I also have is called "Neepawa A Land of Plenty" A brief story of Neepawa and District written by A.F.(Dick) McKenzie. It was written to celebrate Neepawa's 75th birthday in 1958. Areas near the town of Neepawa are Inkerman, Union, Dumfries, Oakdale, Glendale, Mentmore, Stoney Creek, Osprey, Gordon, Salisbury, Arden, Orange Ridge, Acton, Eden, Birnie, Mountain View, Iroquis, Springhill, Bridge Creek adn Franklin. It says some district names have been overlooked, some not frequently used and other have had name changes. No index. Will be glad to do lookups from these books as long as I have them from the library.
