My grandparents, Fred and Rosina Clarke came to Miniota from Cornwall in 1904. After WWI they moved to Winnepeg where Fred worked for Eatons as a watchmaker until his retirement in the mind 1940s. They moved to Oregon to be near their sons who had come to Oregon in the mid 1920s. Both Fred and Roseina died in Vancouver, B.C. while visiting their daughter who lived there. Stanley R. Would someone know what the sub district is for Makinak on the 1906 census recently released by the National Archives. My eyes are really weary and I still can't find it. Any help much appreciated Kip Mason Nova Scotia
Hi Makinak is located on the eastern end of the Riding Mountains, northwest of McCreary Manitoba. at 17-23-16 W1 As far as the sub district does, I am going to have to download a copy of the map that goes with the 1906 Census info. The "Place Names of Manitoba" is very good about giving us the location, but not the "districts etc". I want to thank all those who supplied so much information regarding the McLeod's and Arcola village. You are indeed a great group! We have found some of our missing family! Eva, Vancouver, B.C.
Yes, Arcola is right in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan, in the Moose Mountain region, which shows up in the map you pointed out. Btw, those maps are great:). It's interesting to see how the borders have changed. Arcola is mainly an oil, farming and ranching town. The film 'Who Has Seen The Wind" was filmed there years ago. Bye again:) Lois --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Version: 6.0.435 / Virus Database: 244 - Release Date: 30/12/2002
