Hi list; Looking for any info on the family of Wm. Laird who lived at 231-11th St. Brandon, Man. as of 1906. Dorothy Laird was my great aunt. Peace John Tracy in overcast and cold Victoria, B.C.
John I'll see what I can do for you. Maybe someone with with a closer association with the Lairds will answer your request. However let us know what it is that you require. Bette, thank you very much for looking and my Florence was indeed Florence May LINNEY, I suppose they were popular names then, however my Florence did marry and she died in Winnipeg in the 1970s. I think she married in Brandon. I am really stuck for information on this family from the time they left England in 1909 until about 1920. Thank you for your help. Thanks to Carol I have discovered section 14B. Through a quirk in the indexing it is located at the end of the Dauphin section along with 15B and 9B. Hello I looked District 2 Sub Dist. 14 and see that it is divided into 2 sections. One is 14A and the other is 14B. I looked at one image in 14B and saw Twp 24 Range 20 but being in a rush and not knowing who you were looking for I didn't look any further. The one image page I did look at was #18. I have been trying to locate Twp. 24, Range 19 and 20 W1. According to the census index it should be in District 2 Dauphin, Sub 14 A which says it covers Twps 23,24 in Ranges 17,18,19,20. But if you look at the 14 pages in that section it only includes Ranges 17 and 18. Ranges 19 and 20 are missing. I have checked the districts on either side but they are not there either. Has anyone come across Twp. 24 Range 19 and 20 in another section? Thanks

Isaac Hart was living on NW2 - 16 - 18 - W1 which is about 8 miles north of Minnedosa in the municipality of Minto. Minnedosa Holy Ascension Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery is in the RM of Minto. Sandy Lake is a community about 20 miles to the NW. This area in late 1800s was on route from Winnipeg through Portage La Prairie to the North West. No. I did say if anyone can help, I will provide the details. I find if e-mails are too long they become boring and are not read to the end. However here are the details if anyone is willing to help. Sarah LINNEY died on 4th February in either 1912 or 1913 John LINNEY, her husband, was living at 331 - 10th Street, E. Brandon in 1918. He was employed at that time as a labourer for the City but had previously worked for Canadian Pacific Railways. They had two sons and two daughters, the eldest I know, was in France with the Canadian Army. The other three, Alfred LINNEY, Florence LINNEY and Mary LINNEY were all teenagers at this time but I can find no trace of them. So, to sum up, I am looking primarily for the burial place of Sarah, but if anyone finds a mention of Alfred, Florence or Mary that would be a huge bonus. Thank you for reading through all this. It would be wonderful if anyone can help. Dear Bette, Thank you so much for your help. I took a look at the 1891 to see who was on one of the land grant properties and found Isaac HART. It lists him as married but living there alone and this was an important clue. My Isaac left his family in Ontario and moved to Manitoba around this time. It also listed him as born in Ontario around the same time that my Isaac was born. Thanks to your help I think I have begun to break down one of my brick walls!! I have one other request if someone has access to cemetary transcriptions. Family lore has it that Isaac was buried at Sandhill. I had spent a lot of time looking for a place name of Sandhill, but could not find a village/town by that name. However, I did find a reference to a cemetary called sandhill AKA Ladywood Holy Ghost Ukranian Orthodox cemetary in the Brokenhead area. If anyone has access to the transcriptions to this cemetary could they please see if Isaac HART is buried there? Thank you again Bette. Hello, I am new to this list and I am hoping that someone living in Brandon will be able to help me. I have been trying for years to find out where my great grandmother is buried. Family legend has always said it was in Saskatchewan but now I have a small clue. She and her family left England in 1909 for Canada. She died in either 1912 or 1913 and I now have an address where her husband was living in 1918. It was 331 - 10th Street, E Brandon. Is there anyone on the list who could tell me anything about that address? Is it still there? Does it give a clue to where she might have been buried nearby? If anyone can help, I will send the details. I know it is possible to get the death record but at the moment I do not know whether to apply to Sask or Manitoba. As I am in England it is difficult to get information. I should be so very grateful if anyone could help me. Thanks, Jane

Hi All Just posting my intersests on the list again. TIA June Tooth Yorkshire UK
Hi Mary, You said Isaac Hart was buried in Manitoba. Do you know where? and when? There are several things I think you can do - but none of them quick and dirty. I expect others will have suggestions but you might try: a) looking at a Manitoba census for 1891 in areas where you think he might be. I gather you are doing this online but if you have a chance to scan the microfilms directly, it's often quicker. b) If you know when and where he was buried, see if you can find an obit for him in a newspaper - the Cdn National Archives can send you a film to read of the newspapers of the area and time frame. c) get his death record from Manitoba Vital Stats. That should give you a clue to his last known address. d) according to the Western Land Grants (found at the Archivianet site) there's an Isaac Hart who bought the NW part of Section 2, Twp 16, Range 18, Meridian W1 (film reel C-5972) and also the Sw part of Section 6, Twp 17, Range 18, W1 (Film reel C-4038) - Could this be your man? Hopefull that will give you a bit to go on, Bette

My ancestor Isaac HART moved from Simcoe county, Ontario to Manitoba some time after 1881. I am having difficulty tracing hime after this time. Family lore has it that he moved to Sand Hill or Sand Lake but some think that he may have moved to Portage La Prairie. I do know that he owned a store at some point and that he died in Manitoba and was buried there. Could anyone steer me in the right direction to track Isaac down. I have been trying to go through the Census records but it is very slow going. Mary researching HART
