I have just joined this list in the hope that SKS will be able to help me. My uncle MALCOLM McINNES GRAY, a Corporal with the 102nd Canadian Infantry, was killed in France in May 1917. He had emigrated to Canada from Lairg, Sutherland, Scotland about 1906 and acquired a Homestead in Kemah (Milden), Sask. for which the patent was granted 25 Jan. 1911. Between then and Nov. 1915 I have no info about him. Malcolm was reputed to have been married in Canada before going to the War, and his wife may have had a daughter. The only clue to this I've ever had was the address of a Mrs M M Gray at Merrill Mansions, 1070 Haro St., Vancouver, found in a notebook belonging to my aunt who died in 1969. Last year my nephew was passing through Vancouver and established from the archives that there was a Mary Gray living at Merril Mansions between 1918 and 1919. She was a tea packer for a John D Lillico in 1918, then employed as a housekeeper at the Mansions. But he was unable to search further. This week I accessed Malcolm's Attestation Paper from the Canadian archives site which confirmed that his next of kin was Mrs M Gray of 1404 Bay St., Victoria. >From the BC Archives Death Index I have identified the following Mary Grays who died in Vancouver as potential candidates, although I don't know that she actually died in Vancouver: 1. Mary Gray, d.15.2.1960, a72 Reg. No. 1960-09-002432; BCA film no. B13245; GSU film no.2033302 2. Mary Gray, d.30.6.1965, a 76 Reg. no. 1965-09-008437; BCA film no. B13272; GSU film no. 2033725 3. Mary Gray, d.11.7.1966, a 79 Reg no. 1966-09-009393; BCA film no. B13278; GSU film no. 2033854 4. Mary Gray, d. 13.10.1969, a 83 Reg. no. 1969-09-014060; BCA film no. B132399; GSU film no. 2034110 If SKS could kindly follow through this line of enquiry for me, or point me in the right direction I would be very grateful. As I live in Scotland I can offer to return the favour, particularly with reference to research connected with Sutherland or the Glasgow area. With warm greetings and best wishes to all from Paul McInnes Gray
