Victoria: While waiting for the death record to be released, you might also try the BC Archives for his probate file. BC Archives has the microfilmed index to Vancouver probate files which continues up to 1986. The staff at BC Archives can search the Index for you within their half hour time limit for doing research on behalf of anyone living at a distance, and if there is a file, they should be able to look it up for you, and get exact date of death, also the names and addresses of the heirs. This would allow you to go after a newspaper obituary, if you haven't got it yet. Go to http://www.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/services/inquiry/accescom.htm and scroll down to the electronic form at the bottom of the page, where you can leave your request for assistance. Be very specific, as they will not undertake lengthier research, just respond to specific questions that take only up to one half hour to handle. If you want photocopies of the pages showing the genealogical information you want, they will tell you how much you must pay for the pages, (the only charge is photocopying) before they mail the pages to you. If they don't find anything in the Vancouver Probate Index, it means he did not have an estate settled, or it was done in some other area of the province.
