    3. Hi Chris. Please excuse the delay in responding to your message. My initial thoughts regarding your query were to direct you to the National Archives and the website for obtaining Attestation Papers for those serving in the CEF of WW I. You have obviously already availed yourself of those sources. Unfortunately, at this time we have no access to Canadian Census records past 1901, and unless our campaign to have things changed is successful, we will never see another Census in Canada made available to the public. I have every hope that we will succeed. Until such time, however, those records are not available. Should we succeed, the 1911 Census of Canada should be available in 2003. Best thing that I can suggest is to join the British Columbia mail list and post your queries there. You might find someone to check his presence in Vancouver through some of the City directories of the time. To join this mail list send a message to CAN-BRITISH-COLUMBIA-L-request@rootsweb.com with only the word "subscribe" (without the quotation marks) in the subject line and body of the message. I have copied your message to the BC List and you may have responses from others reading it. I wish you luck in your search. Happy Hunting. Gordon A. My only direct reference to him being in Vancouver was that from Canadian Archives who kindly sent me a copy of his military record and Attestation papers: he enlisted with the 29th. Battalion British Expeditionary Force in Vancouver, having already served with the 72nd. Seaforth Highlanders of Vancouver for 2 years. He was born in Brighton, England 14. January 1893. He enlisted with the 29th. Battalion on 14th. November 1914 at the age of 19, and with 2 years previous attachment to the 72nd 'Highlanders of Vancouver, I think he must have immigrated (alone) to Canada between 1909 and 1912. The records of passenger lists are too great to search and so I wondered whether there may be any census record of him in Vancouver between 1909 and 1914 in which I might be able to find some reference to him. He did not marry and died of wounds in France in 1917. Unfortunately I am unable to budget for professional researches (he was one of eight) and so any suggestions of where I could continue searching would be most appreciated, thank you for your time, Chris Woods retired mariner, Norfolk England
